FORT LAUDERDALE— The burglary that left philanthropist Elaine Vasquez's home thoroughly ransacked was bad enough. But that was not the worst of it.
A blood trail led toward a bedroom closet where the homeowner's dachshund, Papi, was found slain, police said. He was suspended by the neck with a nylon strap, and his throat had been slit, they said.
A bloody knife was left in a hallway. On the inside of the front door a message had been scratched into the wood: "YOU NEXT."

Sounds more like an attempted murder except no one was home.
I hope Ms. Vasquez finds this guy before the law does. I don’t think she’d have to worry about being convicted of anything by a jury...

I agree. This lady has some enemies. No common thief is going to bother to do something like that.
I’d say it’s somebody in her family or at least somebody who knows her and is angry at her on a personal level.

I got burglarized the Monday after the Super Bowl last year. Although it was an awful violation and a huge pain in the butt, I cried like a baby with relief because both of my dogs were relatively unharmed.
I can’t imagine my reaction if I had found what this lady did. Wait, actually I can.
either attempted murder or someone in the family did it for attention.
usually assassins don’t tip off their targets. if they really want to get them. and if they are trying to send a message a lot of times it’s “don’t get the cops involved” and publicize it.
Something very odd about the story.
Goes beyond a burglary and cruelty.
Reminds me of the movie Race With the Devil from the 70s.
At least the owner knows he’s dealing with pure evil. I would wait in the dark with a shotgun for someone like that to return.
Oprah said that old white people must die for racism against blacks to end. Perhaps one of Obamas sons is responding here?
