The Lunar Diet, which will not turn you into a werewolf, involves timing ‘detoxing’ liquid fasts with the moon’s cycle. It supposedly helps followers drop up to 6 pounds in 24 hours, and reportedly has some famous fans.

If you’re looking to lose weight fast, you may want to tap into your inner lycanthrope.

Or so say fans of the "Werewolf Diet." The plan, also known as the "Lunar Diet" or "Moon Diet," doesn’t require you to eat raw meat or howl at the moon. Instead, it ties juice cleanses and fasts with the moon’s cycle.

Stars are reportedly over the moon about this little-known fad diet. Celebrities like Demi Moore and Madonna supposedly subscribe to it, at least according to Grazia Magazine.

The basic version of the Werewolf Diet claims to help followers lose up to six pounds in 24 hours when there is a new or full moon. This is because, in addition to impacting the rise and fall of sea level, the moon’s gravitational pull also affects the water in the human body, according to MoonConnection.com.

Actress Demi Moore is reportedly a fan on the Lunar Diet, according to Grazia Magazine.

“Consuming more fluids will call on the power of the moon, stimulate renal activity, and allow your body to lose its excess water,” an explanation on MoonConnection.com reads. “This flushes out the toxins that accumulate in the body due to unhealthy foods, bad digestion, and stress, and provides a detoxifying effect that will strengthen your immune system.”

For those who want a longer commitment, there is an extended version of the Moon Diet that calls for fasting during full and new moons. During the waning moon, you are supposed to eat a balanced diet and, when it is a waxing moon, it is recommended that you “eat less than usual.”

“You don't have to starve yourself, but you need to be sure to stop eating your meals as soon as you begin to feel full — don't overeat and don't give in to cravings!” the website reads. “Especially avoid thickeners (sweets, fats, etc.) in this phase.”

The website points out that you should talk to your doctor before starting the Moon Diet.

People following the Moon Diet, which is also called the Lunar or Werewolf Diet, are encouraged to drink freshly squeezed fruits and vegetable juices during certain moon phases.

Detox diets and juice cleanses similar to the Werewolf Diet are popular, but they aren't necessarily good for long-term weight loss, according to the Mayo Clinic.

“My primary concern with the ‘Werewolf Diet’ is the absence of any evidence to support such a drastic and restrictive eating pattern,” registered dietitian Roxanne Laughlin told the Daily News. “In addition to rarely being sustainable, diets that require fasting or restriction of whole food groups increase the risk of nutrient deficiencies.”

Laughlin’s suggestion for dropping unwanted pounds?

“It's not ‘sexy’ but a balanced diet — moderate portions, is the healthiest way to lose or maintain weight,” she said.

On the one hand, the Moon has a PROFOUND effect on many aspects of our lives.
On the other hand, the Sun has almost NO impact on weather. That's all us and our CO2

I guess prowling about in the underbrush and howling on full moons is good exercise.
