Johnny, someone yesterday told me that wax is put on rice after it is harvested, so that rice should be washed. I am not a big rice eater. In fact, I don’t know if I cook rice once a year. Beans everyday. But not much rice. Anyhow, was this person pulling my leg about the rice being waxed?

I have been told that domestic cat is a staple for owls and coyotes in Arizona. A coyote would play the devil getting in here, but I cannot do a thing about the owls.

—I don’t know what squirrels might have on their bodies—

Fleas apparently. As we watch them playing through the window, they scratch just like a dog with fleas. We keep these dogs up on the flea treatments so they never have any fleas.

This is good weather for soup or bowl.
I am content to stay home but the widows have invited me to join them for something on tv called a puppy bowl or something. Duty calls.

Charcoal does a couple of things. It provides a slow breakdown source of carbon, it has nooks and crannies for beneficial micro-organisms to hide, and it adds organic bulk to the soil.

Rice is not waxed. And water wouldn't wash off wax anyway.

Apples do get a very thin coat of edible wax, but not rice.

Thank you. I thought it was a goofy concept - to wax rice.

DRATS - CUCUMBER SEEDS ON THE FLOOR

Okay, I punched holes in four cups and put seed starter in. Used a knife and put some tobacco seed in the four cups. How many seeds? Who knows, maybe thousands as opposed to millions. They are now in a plastic tray with filtered water in the tray and under the grow lamp. Remember, the time I tried this last year I was using a commercial tray with grow medium in it and not one seed sprouted. I murdered those tobacco seeds. Will never use a commercial piece of crap to start seeds again.

Now, after the tobacco, filled two cups with starter and opened the envelope of Carolina Cucumber seed. Inside was a very small little plastic bag with the seed. I picked up the bag by its top and they had not sealed the bottom of the bag and almost every seed hit the floor. There were about 100 seeds in that bag.

Grabbed the Yorkie because I knew she would eat them and she was headed to them, so shut her in the bathroom, got a broom and scooper and got the seeds in there. Put the seeds in the envelope itself as the open bottom plastic bag was useless.

Let the dog out again, planted the cucumber seeds and also had to make tags to put in cups so I would know what’s in them.

After I finished, found three more cucumber seeds, these in the middle of the floor - got those and put in envelope. I was not happy to deal with seeds on the floor.

If the tobacco comes up, which it should this time, there will be multiple upon multiple plants. Once they are up enough, I can take some of those out and put them in cups - right?

Thank you, when you break down the chunks, is it almost a powder? I have quite a bit of mesquite charcoal, after a BBQ and a lot of mesquite ash, how does that figure in adding to the soil?

I purchased some manure seed pots from Territorial Seeds.
I wanted to see how they work, and if it would be easy to make some for next season. (1/2 half of me is Scot), I squeeze pennies. I think these are made from cattle muffins.

I don't break it down too fine. A little less than dime size is good enough. I don't add much in the way of ash, because we are alkali here anyway.

One thing about tobacco. It transplants well. I've never babied any of the transplants, and they come out great. Yank 'em up, poke 'em in, and watch 'em grow.

I saw that. Sure, they aren't crazy if they dress up like it's the high middle ages, but let someone wander around dressed like the day he was born, and everybody goes nutz. ;)

“let someone wander around dressed like the day he was born, and everybody goes nutz. ;)”

Last night I clicked on the Learning Channel and there was a reality show of a clothing optional subdivision north of Tamps, Florida. It showed the dressed realtor taking around a nude couple to look at houses in this subdivision. Everyone on the streets in the subdivision was nude. The homes were lovely and I thought you would love it there - everyone just like you with absolutely no problem being nude.

A bag of seed starter and 5 oz. paper cups works very well for me. The packaged plastic tray with that grow medium that swells when you put water in it, in each tiny pocket, was a total disaster - not a single seed sprouted in that last year.

I do have some nice custom made suits, including one from communist block Romania from back in the day. I even own a tux.

But face it. These days, I don't attend many black tie events where champagne is served on pass-trays.

Most of the time I can get by with a breechclout and a hair tie.
