NEW YORK – Ray Guy has become the first punter elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Joining the long-time Oakland Raider were two first-time eligible players, linebacker Derrick Brooks and offensive tackle Walter Jones.

The class of 2014 also included defensive end Michael Strahan, receiver Andre Reed, defensive back Aeneas Williams and defensive end Claude Humphrey, who like Guy was a senior selection.

Congrats to all, though I was hoping Tony Dungy made it

Did Guy not make it his first chance? He should have.

Unfortunately, this was either Guy’s seventh or eight time as a Hall of Fame finalist...a true tragedy.

Derrick Brooks was as good a linebacker as you'll ever want to see. Covered so much ground.

Aeneas Williams was a great defensive back and is an even better person.

Guy was also a pretty good backup QB.

I guess I never saw him play QB but that is what the announcer would always say so probably true.

Williams, Humphrey and of course Guy were all great picks.

Ray Guy was more than a punter. He was an artiste, back fromwhen the Raiders were fun. Biletnikoff, and that guy with the stickum) and even Mark Van Eeghan made for a great team to watch.

Strahan was good football player but he is an annoying pundit, disastrous husband and big promoter of homosexual marriage.

Also note that Manning just won MVP, and deservedly so.

Guy could pin that ball like no other I have ever seen. I can not simply understand why todays punters cant punt for the coffin corner like he could.

Guy should have been elected a long time ago. Strahan got in only because he played in New York. He was good, but not Hall of Fame good.

Not like the Baseball Hall of Fame is it? I’ve never heard of a lot several of these players, and I’m about an average fan I’d guess.

Yup he was actually the emergency backup QB for the Raiders for years. I actually saw him play QB a couple of times in his career, once during the mid 70s, and later on in a game in 1980 he came in after Plunkett came out with a hamstring injury. On the next play Dan Pastorini got his bell rung and came out... Guy stepped in and completed a pass which extended the drive. Plunkett came back out after some quick medical attention.

Also note that Manning just won MVP, and deservedly so.

Yes, but one voter selected Tom Brady as MVP, denying Manning a unanimous vote. Voter claimed Brady was more valuable because he carried his team on his back, even though he acknowledged Manning may have had the greatest season an NFL QB ever had.

As a result, Brady remains the only player ever to win a unanimous NFL MVP.

Manning's been robbed of appropriate acknowledgement before. See, e.g., Heisman Trophy.

Agreed, and I'll add my disappointment that Jerome Bettis was passed over again (4th time). There just is no excuse for that IMHO.
