NEW YORK - Philip Seymour Hoffman, who won the Oscar for best actor in 2006 for his portrayal of writer Truman Capote in "Capote" and created a gallery of other vivid characters, many of them slovenly and slightly dissipated comic figures, was found dead Sunday in his Greenwich Village apartment. He was 46 years old, and leaves behind a longtime partner, Mimi O’Donnell, and three children.
While the cause of death has not been made official, a drug overdose is believed to be responsible. Hoffman was found dead in his Manhattan apartment after a 911 emergency call from a friend of his, according to law enforcement sources. Hoffman was supposed to be somewhere this morning and when he did not show up the associate apparently went to Hoffman's apartment when he was discovered.

Fox News is reporting that he was found with a needle in his arm. Syringe had heroin in it.
Read about this earlier on Comcast.net., and it saddened me.
My nephew’s dad is an addict. He has repeatedly tried to quit. He has tried and nearly died several times. I know why he wants to be numb on heroin; his drunken stepfather used he and his brothers (when children) as live target practice.
Actors often choose their profession because it allows them to be someone else. This strongly implies they’re unhappy with who they are and choose escape, like heroin.
RIP, Mr. Hoffman. We have lost a very fine actor too soon.
But lets go ahead and legalize marijuana.

There is a very deadly form of heroin going around the Pittsburgh area. They’re calling it “thera-flu”, because heroin addicts exhibit flu-like symptoms when they need a fix. It’s a mixture of heroin and fentanyl.
Good one.

Imagine what someone in Hoffman's shoes would give for one more straight day of life.
Years ago I was a drinker, a steady daily drinker, and I used to think just that: If only I could stop today.
Took me a long time and the grace of God to reach that day.
Now we are suppose to celebrate and chuckle up our sleeves at yet another onramp to the Phillip Seymour Hoffman Express.
