Broncos lose record fifth Super Bowl in 43-8 blowout

When it comes to Super Bowls and getting blown out, no one goes down in flames quite like the Denver Broncos. Denver's loss to Seattle on Sunday was team's fifth Super Bowl loss, an NFL record.

The Broncos had been tied with the Patriots (3-4), Vikings (0-4) and Bills (0-4) for most Super Bowl losses.

Having the most Super Bowl losses is bad enough, but it gets worse: thanks to the 43-8 final score, the Broncos have now been on the losing end of three of the five biggest blowouts in Super Bowl history.

Here are the five biggest blowouts in Super Bowl history:

1. Super Bowl XXIV: San Francisco 55-10 over Denver

2. Super Bowl XX: Chicago 46-10 over New England

T-3. Super Bowl XLIV: Seattle 43-8 over Denver

T-3. Super Bowl XXVII: Dallas 52-17 over Buffalo

5. Super Bowl XXII: Washington 42-10 over Denver

Here's a brief look at the Broncos' four Super Bowl losses. You can read the game story from the Broncos fifth Super Bowl loss by clicking here.

Super Bowl XII: Dallas 27, Denver 10 -- This is the only Super Bowl in NFL history that had a split MVP and one of only seven times in 48 years that a defensive player won the MVP award. Cowboys defensive tackle Randy White shared the award with teammate Harvey Martin. Seahawks linebacker Malcolm Smith became the eighth defensive player to win the Super Bowl MVP when he won the award Sunday.

Super Bowl XXI: NY Giants 39, Denver 20 -- The Broncos were beat down by Phil Simms. Simms completed a Super Bowl record 88 percent of his passes (22 of 25) for 268 yards and three touchdowns as New York won its first Super Bowl title in franchise history. Simms also became the first Super Bowl MVP to utter the most famous postgame words that have ever been uttered, "I'm going to Disney World."

Super Bowl XXII: Washington 42, Denver 10 -- Of the Broncos' first four Super Bowl losses, this one might have been the most painful. For one quarter against Washington, the Broncos looked like they were going to dominate the game. Denver jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, but then the wheels fell off the wagon and the wagon caught on fire. Redskins quarterback Doug Williams threw four touchdown passes in the second quarter and Washington scored 35 total points as the Redskins turned the game into a rout. Williams threw for 340 yards and four touchdowns and took home the Super Bowl MVP award.

Super Bowl XXIV: San Francisco 55, Denver 10 -- The 49ers' 55-10 win is still the largest margin of victory in Super Bowl history and San Francisco's 55 points are the most ever scored in a Super Bowl. This game was never close as the 49ers jumped out to a 41-3 lead.

It's also worth noting that although the Broncos do lose often in the Super Bowl, they also have won before. With John Elway under center, the Broncos won back-to-back titles in Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII.

“Seattle outplayed Denver and deserve to win.”

Yes, they did. I live in Denver. It will be a somber day at work tomorrow. (Not for me, I was rooting for Seattle. Have to. Wife is a native of Seattle.)

The coin toss by Joe Namath was the best part of that Super Bowl.

“Besides the Ravens I can’t think of another AFC team that could compete vs. a good NFC team. “

How about the Colts. Indy won against SF, Seattle and Denver during the regular season.

The physical defense of the seahawks involves bringing the pass defenders up into press coverage which takes away the running game and short passing game. It dares the offense to go deep. Going deep is a challenge because the qb must throw a great pass and the blocking must hold up.

Luck throws a great deep ball and can usually extend the play with his feet when the blocking breaks down. He is the worst nightmare for the Hawks defense. When Luck plays, you are looking at Colin Kapernick only with a more accurate deep ball and better game management skills.

Manning does not extend plays and likes the short and intermediate routes and rarely goes deep. For him the seahawk defense was his worst nightmare.

The Tebow “no contract” cell phone commercial was the best of the bunch. I still would have liked to have seen another “And so God made a farmer” ad. That one left me speechless.

Elway built a team based on Offence, not Defence.

Defence wins Championships.

The NFL Network were cheering for Manning like he deserved it or something.

Marshall Faulk and the brain dead NFL Network, “...the Seahawks will get blown out”.

After the game did these morons do a mea culpa? Hell no. A man would have eaten his words and apologized for being so dumb.
