Arrested woman refused to pay $1000 cab ride from JFK to Mass.
A pretty blonde woman got off a flight from Brazil at JFK Airport, hailed a yellow cab to her Massachusetts home — and then stiffed the driver on the almost $1000 fare, called him a moron, and threatened to call President Obama on the cops who arrested her. Denise Rebelato, 31, took the cab Wednesday afternoon after driver Adnun Chaudhury quoted a $980 price when she asked for the over 200-mile trip to Framingham. She told him to take the I-95N, then claimed she hadn’t and berated him as a “moron,” he told the Post.

This is a NYC Yellow Cab, it’s metered. For trips outside of city limits, you have to multiply the metered fare by 2.
These rules are printed on the exterior of every cab.
She probably could have got a better price from a black car company.

Especially NYC which is the capital of lunatics, the cabbie was an idiot. I use to drive as well and there is no way in hell I would ever take that kind of gamble. Not only was he gambling on $1000 but on his entire day as well. The garage don’t give a damn if he got scammed, they want their lease money no matter what.
The driver was a moron...not to get the money up front on a fare like that.

$2.50 upon entry
$0.50 for each additional unit
The unit fare is:
•one-fifth of a mile, when the taxicab is traveling at 6 miles an hour or more; or
•60 seconds when not in motion or traveling at less than 6 miles per hour.
•The taximeter shall combine fractional measures of distance and time in accruing a unit of fare. Any combination of distance or time shall be computed by the taximeter in accordance with the National Institute of Standards and Technology Handbook 44.
•The fare shall include pre-assessment of the unit currently being accrued; the amount due may therefore include a full unit charge for a final, fractional unit.
•Night surcharge of $.50 after 8:00 PM & before 6:00 AM
•Peak hour Weekday Surcharge of $1.00 Monday - Friday after 4:00 PM & before 8:00 PM
•New York State Tax Surcharge of $.50 per ride.
Trips Beyond the City
For a trip beyond the limits of New York City, except Westchester or Nassau Counties, or Newark Airport, the fare shall be a flat rate (a flat rate is a definite amount fixed between the driver and the passenger at the start of the trip). This flat rate shall be negotiated prior to the trip and entered into the meter via the technology enhancements or TPEP system (when available) using Rate Code 5.
