Considering who starred in the film (Andy Griffith, in probably the best performance of his life) a remake might be made of a small Southern town country sheriff who carefully conveys the impression that he’s a kindly and wise but eventually is found out to be a hard Left subversive intent on putting everyone in the town under the thumb of his fellow commissars. Maybe “Red Star over Mayberry”. CPA card carrying Aunt Bea and flamingly fabulously gay Gomer would make nice little subplots.
You forgot to add in the re-make -
Opie would be bullied on the playground,
Otis Campbell’s drinking problem makes him a victim,
Floyd the barber has carpel tunnel and needs 90 days of paid sick leave due to a pre-existing condition and
Ernest T. Bass will be portrayed as the right wing home schooling parent ala Randy Weaver of Ruby Ridge.
Larger-than-life pols being drunk on power, on the take and, of course, screwin' around were the main things they featured...oh, wait a minute....nothing much has changed today, has it!
LOL....
