I spent the first 21 years of my life in Michigan. I loved the snow. I loved watching it fall. I loved driving through it. I loved taking walks in it. I loved sliding down hills on a toboggan. I loved ice skating at the park where the city would spray water for a week for a nice natural rink. And I didn't mind shoveling it. What I hated was hearing other people complain night and day about it. Spent Sunday on Saginaw Bay. Put 20.4 miles on the sled, Ice fishing. Thickest Ice I found was 27 inches. The most I have ever seen out there. (but I have only been ice fishing the bay for the past 10 years. Great calm Day, blue bird sky and spend most of it outside of the shanty. Limited out on Walleye also ;)

“Here in Texas we get only an inch and the whole place shuts down”.

That’s because some of our new residents come from the “land down under”. And I don’t mean Australia.

One of my best Michigan winter memories was driving onto a frozen Lake Fenton outside of Flint in a ‘56 Chevy and making rooster tails.

We do have possums everywhere and if you go up north you have to keep in mind that a porcupine is not a possum and might puncture a tire. Since there is little hunting or trapping for furs these days our coons and muskrats grow huge. We do grow some nice deer in Michigan.

I haven’t tried it but my cousin catches catfish through the ice. No better fish for eating than cold water catfish.

Very funny, thanks for the post. I DO take issue with point #10:
Sold the car, the house, and moved to Florida . I can't imagine why anyone in their freakin' mind would ever want to live in the God forsaken State of Michigan!
Sorry, this has been one scary winter, but that's outrageous. A state where the highest point you will ever be is on any given bridge you cross, one that is disgusting sticky hot almost all the time, one that has zero natural vegetation that is pretty, one that has a population that half of them shouldn't be driving anymore.....you can have it......and so can they.......

Yes, they do plow. But there is a certain lack of timeliness. the last blizzard I parked My car at a gas station 1/4 mile away on the main road so I could make it to work. I did that for 4 days before the plow came through.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to shoot these elegant animalsPeople who hit these here with their cars would beg to differ. Anyone who has had a garden, anyone who has bushes and landscaping finds them to be the prettiest bunch of oversized rats that need exterminating ever......

Its been 2 minutes and I haven't stopped laughing yet...The plow has built up a pile of snow about 7 foot tall and the road is shrinking in size...(that's directly across the street from me...once all the ice and snow melt, we get to see all the dead deer along the side of the road. Pretty squirrels are tree rats, I have some in my back yard, haven't seen them in a while the back yard snow is deeper than they are tall, even standing on their hind legs...They couldn't find a buried nut if their lives depended on it and it does..Glad I moved into town, the condo I rent takes care of the snow and driveway. They also cut the grass when it starts to turn green, sometime in mid may, but have had killing frosts as late as june 1. Thats when everyone has to go buy new plants for their garden case a killing frost is just what it says KILLING FROST.

Today in west MI the forecast has a low of 16 and high of 23. At 7am it was -5, and it’s gotten up to 11 so far.

Snook,
Caught between the Fort Pierce and Sebastian inlet offshore.
Then they’ve been in good ocean water to clean out mud for at least 20 miles and man o man.
Catfish? Come on man.

Reminds me of an old Mark Twain story Did you ever encounter his short story about the writer caving in to the persistent lightning rod salesman, just so he could keep writing? Laugh-out-loud hilarious. "Sure, put a couple on the cow!"

It probably illegal now, but when my husband and I purchased our farm, the mail box was on top of a steel post drilled in. Then set in 2 feet of concrete. I think it was that country kids love to use baseball bats to knock down mail boxes.

We haven’t seen 30* in quite a while .....I was in Home Despot yesterday and a little fruit fly was following me around....must have come from one of the tropical house plants they are beginning to bring in. I viewed it as a good sign of spring to come!
