I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but was Sochi, Russia chosen to push global warming because of the naturally mild climate?
Sochi is a resort on the Black Sea where many Russian use to flee the harsh winters Moscow and St Petersburg.
When the temperature is 0 degrees in Moscow - a winter temperature of 60 feels like summer.
Had it not been for the cold winter in the US, the warmist cult would try to point at Sochi "as another example with global warming".
Not sure but Murmansk is north of the arctic circle isn’t it?
This is not the first time they have picked someplace that is not usually cold for the winter Olympics.
I think Helsinki FI would be better. Scenic, cold, and full of resorts (probably hot Finnish women too!).
Why the hell does NBC allow it is beyond me.
I thought Vancouver was more suited for the Summer games than the Winter games.
Kind of reinforces your point !
I think it is. It would definitely be cold enough that they wouldn’t have to worry about the half-pipe course melting...
Russia, with an economy dependent on the extraction and export of oil and gas, is not a supporter of global warming theory. Indeed, Russia prefers global warming because it would ease the burden of winter and open up large sections of Russia’s Arctic region to exploration and exploitation. Sochi was likely settled on by Putin and his cronies because it offered an easy opportunity for graft on a monumental scale.
The only way a crappy location like that could have been chosen is corruption. It didn’t have any facilities, did not have any infrastructure and was used by commie party leaders as a place to bring their girlfriends.
I predict that it will revert back to a borderline 3rd world city after the local loot everything they can.
Correct, Russia spread $ around. The IOC makes a Haitian election look democratic.
Agree with the corruption comments. Also, there is no alpine skiing in Russia except for the Caucasus, unless you include Siberia. I hear Magnitogorsk is lovely this time of year.
