O.J. Simpson, jailed for robbery after being found not guilty of murder, says he wants to die “his way.”

OJ Simpson has gone on hunger strike in prison, saying, ‘I used to live my way, and now I’m going to die my way,’ sources have claimed.
ojsimpsonSo, how about it, assisted suicide advocates: Rather than forcing him to engage in what euthanasia advocates tout as VSED (voluntarily stop eating and drinking), why not give him an overdose?
After all, he does not have a quality of life he finds acceptable–the actual basis for advocating assisted suicide. He wants to “die my way.” Why not?
I’ll answer: Because a truly compassionate society doesn’t accede to suicidal desires of our brothers and sisters. We try to help them past the darkness–whether caused by illness, grief, tired of living, or imprisonment.
By the way: This isn’t a product of my paranoid imagination: Some “right to die” advocates have already endorsed allowing assisted suicide for prisoners who would rather end it all than remain incarcerated.
People in prison have lost the right of self determination, including the method of their demise.

He’s just milking whatever sympathy there may be for him.

Ouch. I know I shouldn't but that really made me chuckle.
I admit to being completely caught up in the Simpson murder trial and still hold out hope that O.J. will admit the truth.
There has long been a “black pill” theory of prison suicide.
The idea is that prisoners who are sentenced to terms far exceeding their natural lifespan, without appeals to higher courts for consideration, as well as those with debilitating, terminal diseases, be offered the option of ending their lives with a suicide pill.
Because of the potential for abuse, they would have to give an uninterrupted video recorded deposition, in the presence of their attorney and a judge that of their own free will they wished to die, and they would have to take the pill without any assistance, and die in the presence of these witnesses.
Importantly, those who oppose euthanasia need to be aware of this idea, that if, as in Europe, it becomes common for seriously ill people to be euthanized, it is a logical progression to the voluntary suicide of criminals in prison.
If they oppose one, they should strongly consider their position on the other, and now, before it has been proposed. Because it most likely will be.
I think the right answer is that we have no God given authority to do that. We have authority to take life during just war, and for reasons of social justice, (i.e capital punishment). Traditionally biblical social justice does not extend to "mercy killings" to put someone out of pain or suffering. That's thought to be God's decision not ours.
I'm not sure if we can stretch our social justice authority to include "mercy killings".
Mercy killings are a slippery slope. We've already seen cases where nurses were euthanizing patients, because the nurse not the patient thought it was time. And like in the suicidal cases, it shouldn't be left up to the patient either.
It's best to avoid that slope altogether, especially given that our authority to do so is at best questionable. And God whose authority in such matters is clear, is quite capable.
This would be *my* choice for Juice.
In a free society,in some contexts, when someone is suffering the torture of tragic circumstances outside of his control, it is rational not to settle for anything less than life proper to a rational being, and to choose to end one's suffering. Suicide is legitimate and justified in these cases.
We are way past the slope and into the chasm. Several states already have so called "Right to Die With Dignity" laws. Several European Socialist pig sty countries are already euthanizing people both voluntarily and involuntarily. It is not hard to see we are already doing this, if you just look.
If he won’t subsist, we must assist!
I’m betting that he’ll want a sip or two of water at some point. Oh, and he’ll probably ask for painkillers too, as he progresses. Some have not been so lucky.
Offer him a rope and place him in a cell with a place to affix said rope. Save the taxpayers some money and let the Brown family and Goldman family have some closure.
I’m rather thinking slow crushing would be best and it’d give him that last scream.
The less he likes it, force feed him.
