I know Oshie is originally from Washington, but towns like Warroad don’t get their due in terms of development of the game in the United States.

The Christian brothers of hockey stick manufacturing fame are from there, but other Warroad players like Larry Olimb, and the Marvins (of Marvin Windows, also based there) went to my alma mater, the University of Minnesota. The Warroad pipeline often leads west, but that great hockey town supplies players all over the place.

The old Section 8 in Minnesota (Warroad, Roseau, Moorhead, East Grand Forks, and many others) was great stuff in the days before two-class hockey in the state. International Falls was not in that section.

Well, Meredith Viera (is that her name?) injected both Obama’s name and Princess Hillary's name into the post-game discussion. “If Hillary Clinton decides to run....she should pick T.J. Oshie as her running mate.”

“The real American heroes are wearing camo... That’s not me.” - T.J. Oshie

That doesn’t sound like a Hillary running mate.

The host (or hostess) seemed to change her thought mid-sentence. At first, it appeared she said someone told her then she said she overheard it. I wonder if it was fabricated just to get Princess Hillary's name mentioned.

I wouldn’t be surprised. I've been avoiding the regular Olympic talking heads because of their disgusting political bias. Watching them gives me the sensation of stepping in dog crap.

The perfect answer by Mike Emrick would have been “Her running mate? He should run for president, he is so popular. He'd beat her and win.” The hostess would have been unhinged.

I was from Grand Forks. Central won the state championship for maybe. 20 years straight. Now both Red river and Central struggle. The other teams have improved. I know Warroad and Roseau have a great rivalry. I think the Christian Brothers made sticks for many years, but I think they are defunct now. John Mariuchi, of Eveleth, did much for Minnesota hockey. I remember Mayasich, Nanne, Woog and Lilyholm. I knew Chuck Norby personally. I knew Casey and Pete Ryan, who played in Colorado Springs. Casey is a doctor in Grand Forks. Tim O’keefe is the president of the UND Alumni association. Keith Christiansen played for Duluth. Anything else?

Former NHL player Bryan Erickson once told a great story about the small-town hockey. He said the NHL was filled with great players who grew up in small towns, and each one of them was the best player in his town.

Erickson grew up in Roseau, MN -- and he said he was only the fourth-best player on his own street. He lived down the street from the three Broten brothers -- Aaron, Neal (a member of the 1980 Miracle on Ice team) and Paul.
