A DANGEROUS rescue dog which was on the verge of being destroyed has been saved after it fell in love - with a goose.

Rex the German Shepherd was so vicious it would take two people to feed him - one to distract him and the other to throw a bowl of food into his enclosure.

He would bark and growl at anything that passed and would even try to poke his head through his run to eat wild rabbits which roamed past.

But when introduced to Geraldine the goose the dog immediately mellowed and the two became inseparable.

I had three Toulouse Geese.

All my dogs gave them much respect and a wide berth.

Bob the gander would lay out anybody he imagined was a threat to his women.

Our neighbors had watch geese. They pinned my father and sister in the car one time until the neighbor came and called them off.

Watch geese? The sacred geese of Juno prevented the Gauls from taking the Capitol in Rome in 387 B.C.

They were ‘accidental’ pets.

My dad had them up at the cabin and didn’t provide them a safe haven from coyotes, so, like most of the critters he tried to keep up there, they wandered down through the deer pasture and into my yard.

He kept trying to ‘take them back’ but they always returned so he gave up.

They were good watch dogs.

They’d see something going on, start to honk, the dogs would hear that and start to bark.

Nothing ever went on outside without me knowing.

:D

My dad had a rooster who attacked him, my mom and my sister every chance he got.

He never once bothered me, though.

Animals can be funny like that.
