Columbus Police Officer Fatally Shoots Family Dog

Updated: Monday, February 17 2014, 08:02 PM EST WEST COLUMBUS (James Jackson/Kelsey Mallahan) -- A family’s dog was fatally shot Sunday by police officers after they were called to the home because a moving truck was blocking traffic.

Brittnay Bergman and Dustin Ramsey just moved into the house on South Wayne Ave. They said when officers came to their door, their three to four-year-old Boxer, Delilah, ran out of the house.

"She jumped off the porch, growled at him. Put herself in the corner of our fence and greenhouse," Ramsey said.

Ramsey said that's when the officer grabbed his weapon.

"Shot at the dog nine times. She got nipped once with the first shot. Then the second shot dropped her," Ramsey said. "He [officer] said that he felt like his life was in jeopardy and that he was coming from a high stressful situation," Bergman said.

Now, their other dog is left without its friend and so is Brittnay's son.

"It's my 16-month old's dog and I don't know how I'm going to explain it to him when he comes home from his grandma's," Bergman said.

Bergman and Ramsey said their new home no longer feels like home. They now want to live somewhere else, but spent all of their money on this last move.

Columbus police said they are investigating the incident. They will interview witnesses and determine whether or not the officer followed procedure.

Cops on the other hand, apparently actively seek out dogs to kill them.

People, as well.

“This guy’s got no business being a cop, no more sense than he displayed”

Not to mention he needs 9 shots to kill a dog. Or worse if he killed the dog on the 2nd shot he had to fire 7 more for fun or out of panic . Whats up with that? He’s lucky he didn’t kill somebody in the house next door.

Didn’t the Khmer Rouge shoot family dogs which lived under the stilted huts allowing that said Khmer Rouge could sit under the huts to hear what families were saying about the government/breaking some miniscule law?

These trigger happy “police” officers are working on their intimidation skills, but need to bone up on sneaky.

You explain to the child that the police shot his dog and that is why you never call the police for anything. You explain that you must own a dog so that the police don’t feel it necessary to shoot one of the family. When they want to shoot someone, they will, but a dog is the priority target.

Why can't this be standard procedure for dealing with dogs when the police call is for a minor disturbance or other nonviolent situation?

Because the point is to shoot the dog or someone else. It is all training. In just a few years, maybe much sooner, we will all be asking ourselves and each other,"Why didn't we get out when we still could?"

This guy is exactly what is sought by police agencies, especially urban and federal.

I think all this killing people’s dogs is just a form of terrorism. Show them who’s boss. When the SHTF cops will be hiding under their cars.

This is to prepare us to be good, passive sheep. After they kill a few thousand dogs and old deaf men with a TV remote, the public will be well-trained sheep.

They’re trying to condition us - and themselves - for this sort of thing on a large scale basis. Any sort of resistance to “the state” will be met with immediate and lethal force.

Correct.

Imagine that instead of domesticating dogs, man had domesticated grizzly bears.
Instead of a boxer, these folks had a 1000 lb. grizzly bear.

Perhaps I’ll soon regret posting this seriously tongue in cheek response, but there is a population of freepers who believe that man domesticated dinosaurs (it’s a display at the Creation Museum).

Imagine if this house had a domesticated tyrannosaurus in the yard.

” They will interview witnesses and determine whether or not the officer followed procedure.”

That’s the problem, “THE PROCEDURE”. Change the procedure to not shooting dogs.

“He [officer] said that he felt like his life was in jeopardy”.

WHAT? Did the dog have a GUN?

What a bunch of “pussies” these cops are. Afraid of a dog.

Dealt with home owners dogs my whole life and was only nipped twice. Both times by little poodles. Didn’t even break the skin.

I did have a dog charge me once whose owner’s command stopped him in his tracks, at the last second, defusing the situation. I was not “in fear for my life”. I did think the dog was going to attack me. I didn’t have a gun, only a pipe wrench. I had calculated, in my head, the speed of the dog, the distance left for him to close, and the timing of my swing with the pipe wrench. I was going to swing it with all my might at the dog’s head, and if it killed him, so be it. I can’t even admit to being frightened. It was a DOG after all. I had a means of defending myself and at worst would be bitten before I could inflict sufficient injury on the dog to send him back home, yelping off with his tail between his legs.

Now, this cop thought “his life was in jeopardy”? This guy, and all like him, need to find a new line of work. They are way too dangerous to the public safety to be allowed to carry a firearm.

“I can’t wait to kill something”, syndrome.
