Jackie Evancho - Dark Waltz
YouTube ^ | 27 February 2013 | Jackie Evancho

An incredible vocal by America's angel, Jackie Evancho. She's accompanied by David Foster on piano and Conrad Tao on Violin.

Simply mesmerizing, and beautiful beyond words.

I hope and pray that she can remain unjaded by the fame and fortune that will come her way.

She's done very well so far. She's got a good family, and they've kept her well grounded. The world first discovered her in 2009 when she appeared on America's Got Talent. I think she was just nine years old at the time.

If her talent is this enchanting as a girl, just think how beautiful it will be to listen to her as a young woman—say after a decade or so of practice and maturation.

It's hard to imagine improvement upon perfection. She blew me away when I first saw her years ago, and now she's even better. My mind boggles at the thought that she can achieve even more than she has. She's that good.

Here’s the official video. you’ll want to take a look.

&&
No, thanks.

Yipes! First the blasphemous “Ave Maria” performance that I described and now vampires. What are her parents thinking?

That girl’s talent is just incredible, but I have not been able to watch her ever since she sang the sacred “Ave Maria” on “Dancing With the Stars” while a pair of dancers performed the most erotic of dances to it.

Don't blame Jackie or her parents. I'm sure the act looked much tamer in rehearsals. Her parents are well known for keeping Jackie away from the weird side of the entertainment business. They're quite protective of her, and are actually quite religious.

the official version of Dark Waltz portrays a medieval setting where a young woman is pursued by what appears to be a rich prince. She leads him to a dark place and then kills him with a bite to his neck. She’s a vampire.

Okay. And...?

I hope you are right about her parents.

As for the scene I described, that was the last straw for me. I had become increasingly disenchanted with “DWTS” over the years, as they had gone from featuring entertaining dancing to displays bordering on the indecent.

As a Catholic, I was totally appalled that they would use the “Ave Maria” — the “Hail, Mary” prayer set to music — in this way. It confirmed my growing suspicion of who it is that the producers of that show bow down to.

You're scaring me. It's just fantasy.

If you'd been following Jackie's career development over the years, you'd be convinced that she's got remarkable, loving parents. The Evancho family is just picture perfect and down to earth.

Here's a little snapshot of Jackie's life and family:

And there's this jewel from Holland.

Amazing. I'd love to hear her and Jackie do a duet.

At one time, I would have agreed with you, but now I see this vampire stuff as tied up with various death cult stuff in today’s society.

No, I can’t say I have followed her. Just heard her perhaps 3or 4 times. I wish her and her parents the best.

Nothing really. The point here is only that while the girl’s voice is beautiful—the words are vacant. They can mean anything you them to mean.

I would say the words are impressionist, because They can mean anything you them to mean.

One reason I'm not a big fan of young girl sopranos is that, no matter how talented they are, no matter how good their technique is, they can't really interpret a song because they have nothing to interpret with. I'd rather listen to Johnny Cash singing "Danny Boy" - after his stroke - than a young girl soprano, because Johnny was intimate with loss and death.

It reminds me of when we saw a high school production of Macbeth. Talented cast, put a lot of work into it, but Lady Macbeth was rather prim and schoolmarmish ... and I told my husband that I would be worried about a high school girl who understood Lady Macbeth the way I do!

You really ought to give a listen to more of Jackie's music. She is truly something above and beyond the average young girl soprano. It's not just talent and technique with her. She brings a depth of soul to her singing that is far beyond her years.

To be honest, I had no idea what the song was about until you posted it. I'm more affected by the sheer depth of artistry that Jackie brings to the piece.

Well, I guess that's a personal problem for those people who buy into such nonsense. I live in the real world and know the difference between reality and fantasy. As do most people.

Maybe. “Soul” is not the same as “experience.”

You were awfully positive about this performance of “Dark Waltz,” while I found it overwhelmingly underwhelming. This suggests we have different tastes.

The whole point and purpose of art is to communicate to others through the medium of aesthetics. If an artist succeeds in communicating emotion and ideas to others, then they've succeeded.

Given the fact that Jackie is the youngest Platinum selling musical artist in history, I'd say she's achieved that. Obviously, a lot of people enjoy and appreciate her communication. I know I do.
