Russia's Adelina Sotnikova's won the gold medal in women's figure skating at the 2014 Winter Games. Sotnikova's golden program narrowly topped that of the favorite and silver medalist Yuna Kim, who was in the hunt to win a second consecutive gold after her win in Vancouver.

Big upset of the other Russian beating Kim Yuan, the 2010 Gold medalist. Good to see the veteran Kostner from Italy getting a medal. She had a horrible last Olympics.

Kim was ROBBED! No way Russian judges were going to let the best figure skater in the world win again, not as long as they did the scoring. The Russian was good, but Kim was flawless and was robbed. Things like this happen in every Olympics.

The Russian’s performance was uninspired, but netted a huge score, naturally. This is the first time since 1936 that no U.S. Men or women received medals in figure skating. We won no medals in speed skating either. Perhaps we should forget skating and concentrate on the snowboarding events.

Far cry from 1980. IMHO Eric Heiden was the greatest US Olympian of all. Nobody dominated a sport like he did.

Heiden was once in a century freak (in a good way). I lived in Sacramento CA area and he was an orthopedics surgeon in the area.

I don’t know anything about speed skating, but I do know something about dance. While great athlets US skaters lack the grace of skaters from other nations in my opinion. Get them back in the ballet studios and you will see better results. Have them listen to Tchaikovsky and Vivaldi and toss out the Katy Perry and GaGa.

Every Soviet athlete who's ever appeared in the Olympics has been a professional IMO.For that matter, every athlete representing any Communist country has been a pro.Google East German Olympic athletes and you'll find story after story of East German women being given testosterone to bulk them up.

Even before the scores came in for Kim, Tara Lapinski and Johnny Weird questioned whether Kim Yuan would get a high enough score to beat Adelina. Adelina had 7 tripple, triples compared to Kim’s 6. Adelina had one “bobble where Kim had Issues with a couple of her landings. While Kim’s program “ looked pretty” the judges look for technical issues that have to be reviewed in slow motion.

Congratulations Adelina Sotnikova!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I kind of feel bad for South Korea, this has not been a good Olympics for them. They host the next one, I hope they field a great team for that one.

I personally think Davis and White are the true fairy tale story from the winter Olympics this year. First ever gold for the USA in their Category with the highest score ever recorded despite a deduction. I don’t know the sport but it was a spectacular performance.

Everybody knew they had won before the scores were even announced.

I completely agree. We’re so focused on the athletics of skating that our skaters lack the grace necessary for a beautiful, gold medal, performance. The notable exception: Davis and White in ice dancing.

Funny how the US womens hockey team was winning all the way up to the point where the announcer announced a bet of a case of beer between oblunder and the Canadian PM then it went all downhill from there.
