E-cigarette poisoning cases increasing among children in St. Louis

(KMOV.com) -- Parents who are trying to kick a smoking habit by switching to e-cigarettes could be putting their children at risk.

There were 50 reported cases of exposure to children in St. Louis alone last year and 22 of those were to children younger than five-years-old.

Lynn Huck and her husband own E-Cig Mania in Mehlville and they say business is good. They just opened a second store in Fenton. The store makes their own juice and some of them do appeal to children.

“We have fruit flavored, candy flavored tobacco, flavored gum, all kinds of flavors,” Hucks said, "We are very conscientious about the juice, because we know it can be fatal to children if swallowed. So we put the warning label on the bottle.”

Gotta outlaw them then.

For the children.

BS. The smoke Nazis won’t be happy until the only thing you are allowed to smoke in this sicko country are hams, (In private so as to not offend the ragheads) turkeys and marijuana.

Responsible adults keep such things out of the reach of children. The E-cigs are blameless.

As if pot brownies aren’t tempting for kids

I have switched to e-cigs.

There is a warning on the label saying..do not drink!

So...St Louis parents...do not let your children drink Drano, bleach or any other substance that might harm them.

Jeeze...what the heck is wrong with people these days?

They are saying that flavored e-cigarettes pose a threat because they tempt children.

Pot brownies are even more tempting yet the floodgates are opening on pot as e-cigarettes are facing tougher regulation.

Hell’s Bells! Nicotine is damn poisonous. The LD50 is about 10 mg/kg. (The smaller the number, the less it takes to kill you.)

The main ingredient in Black Flag insect killer is nicotine.

I like smoked ham, but it’s a pain in the ass to keep lit.

I go out of my way to not drink Black Flag.

Now Raid is a different story. Good stuff for happy hour.

Oh, you assume everyone can read warning labels? You must be Richie Rich, and had parents that could pay for your education!

Reader!

You fail to recognize the abject dip$#!+$ we are contending with? They snort bath salts and put discs the size of half dollars in their ears to appeal to chicks, so they can have FaceTime sex with them from their parents basement on their iPhone 5.

So what, they drink cigarette fluid too! Wassup?

We’re so doomed!

Sorry, folks, but I see them EVERYWHERE! Oh look honey, another idiot right there.

“You assume everyone can read warning labels.”

No, I don’t. But the parents can.

Truthfully, there is only so much the government should or could do to protect us stupid citizens.

I don’t see what the rest of your post has to do with the subject.

Hell’s Bells! Nicotine is damn poisonous. The LD50 is about 10 mg/kg. (The smaller the number, the less it takes to kill you.)

This is a complete myth. A good overview is at this site: The Great Nicotine Myth

Relevant snippets:

In October 2013, Prof Mayer of Graz demolished the myth: he showed that there is no evidence at all for the assumption that nicotine is highly toxic; and in fact the LD50 should be around 10 to 20 times greater than the current figure ...

His work shows that:

Evidence for the validity of the current LD50 simply does not exist

The method used to arrive at the LD50 is based on a guess made more than a hundred years ago

There is no evidence whatsoever that a dose equivalent to the current LD50 has ever killed anyone

There is overwhelming evidence that doses of multiple times the LD50 have been survived

Suicide by ingestion of 1,500mg of nicotine is known to have failed, the only result being abdominal pain and vomiting

There is strong evidence that the lethal dose is 4mg plasma nicotine, and this equates to a 500mg - 1,000mg dose

Bottom line, nicotine is not nearly as toxic as people claim it be.

Did anyone else notice the dog that didn’t bark in this story? Nowhere in there was mentioned any actual harm done (even though children supposedly drank the liquid). These were reported “exposures”, which could mean everything from looking at a bottle of e-liquid, all the way to drinking gallons of the stuff. But, despite their hysterical, think-of-the-children tone, no mention of any actual damage done.

Sorry, I should have included a sarcasm tag. The remainder of the post was to show the trajectory the idiots seem to take into early adulthood. It never stops.
