Dogs can detect emotion in human voices, study shows

Think your dog can tell when you’re feeling sad or happy? You may be right.

Dogs are sensitive to cues of emotion in human voices, according to a new study from Current Biology. Researchers suspect the area of the brain responsible for voice and sounds in both dogs and humans evolved at the same time, 100 million years ago, when the two species shared common ancestors.

"Dogs and humans share a similar social environment," Attila Andics, of MTA-ELTE Comparative Ethology Research Group in Hungary, said in a press release. "Our findings suggest that they also use similar brain mechanisms to process social information. This may support the successfulness of vocal communication between the two species."

We’ve all heard the stories about dogs knowing when you are coming home.

And there are people who continually say “He’s just used to a routine, he doesn’t know...”

I had a job for years that would take me away for random amounts of time, maybe two or three days, maybe a week, maybe ten days.

Normally, when I was home, my dog would lie on the back porch. But he actually preferred to lie UNDER the back porch, just that when I was home, he wanted to be right at the door if I came out or tossed him a treat.

My neighbor watched him when I was gone.

He (my neighbor) would to this day swear on a stack of bibles that as soon as I left, my dog would go under the back porch.
And the morning I was due back, he would wander out and get on top of the porch!

I’ve seen the exact same behavior in a golden lab who belongs to my other neighbor. The neighbors go away camping or to church functions, whatever, for various amounts of time. When they are gone, this dog is hanging on my porch or sniffing in the woods or laying in the sun somewhere.
When my neighbors are due back, he’s in the driveway...
He knows. Somehow, he knows.

“The question will become: do I adopt a pet dog from the pound, or a pet Democrat from the ghetto.”

Get a dog, the Democrats sh!t on everything and cannot be housebroken.
