World's Most Notorious Drug-Lord - Billionaire Mexican Cartel Boss "El Chapo" - Captured
Zero Hedge ^ | 2.22.14 | Tyler Durden

The world’s most notorious and powerful drug lord, Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera, has reportedly been captured in Mexico.

The head of the Sinoloa Cartel - nicknamed Chapo or "shorty" - was caught last night, according to the AP, at a hotel resort in Mazatlan in a joint US-Mexico operation. Forbes ranked Guzman 67 out of 72 on their list of the World’s Most Powerful People. With revenues believed to exceed $3bn, his Sinaloa cartel is easily the most powerful in Mexico, responsible for an estimated 25% of all illegal drugs that enter the U.S. via Mexico. While this may appear good news (catching a big bad guy), Stratfor warns "this could spark a wave of violence throughout northwestern Mexico if internal shifts evolve into intra-cartel conflict."

I would imagine some politicians across the border are deeply saddened.

I would also imagine we would be shocked at the amount of money many politicians have in off-shore accounts, from nefarious sources.

Mexico's largest cartel does $3B in revenues.

That's about the same that Cracker Barrel does in revenues per year, selling biscuits and bric-a-brac.

It always amazes me what a small business illegal drugs really are.

As some studies have shown, street-level dealers make the same money as McDonald's employees, but with longer hours, a one in 20 chance of being murdered before they turn 21 and a constant risk of arrest.

The stupidity of dealers and users is mind-boggling.

If he’s not on U.S. soil in U.S. custody, he’s not caught.

One cartel does 25%, about 3 billion dollars. That means 12 billion in total sales. That’s more than General Motors, Braniac. And that’s just from Mexico.
