That was absolutely astonishing!!! What a gift she..and we, who get to listen, have been given.

I notice on the subsequent posts no Pavarotti...he was always my gold standard for Nessun Dorma.

Speaking of tenors, here's Jackie live with Josh Groban:

Why is a soprano singing an aria written for tenor?

Because it's heavenly and heals something deep in the soul. Relax and just enjoy.

I've been listening to Jackie since she first appeared on the national stage, and I am still blown away by her performances. Even ones I've listened to a hundred times can still create a powerful effect on me.

There is something unique about this young girl that is hard to put into words. I suppose it's simply that she has the power to reach others with a depth that few artists possess.

There is a sweetness and richness to her voice and in such an angelic package.

Honestly, I got choked up....

I've gotten something in my eye on more than one occasion listening to Jackie. That's what I mean about her ability to touch others at a depth that's extraordinary.

I honestly believe she's going to go down as one of the most important vocalists of all time. What a gift to be living at a time when I can witness and appreciate such a talent first hand.

"when music is terribly great, many humans do not need to understand a single word being sung to appreciate the performance...

Acting comes before singing; acting comes before dance. No matter how well something is sung, it's missing a lot if it isn't acted well. Nessun Dorma should be delivered as if Turnadot might cut the singer's head off at the next moonrise. That's my critique of the young girl singing the piece. Here's lighter example with Bartoli and Fleming plotting to meet their lovers in the pines: Sull Aria. Aside from the flawless singing, look at the brilliant acting.

I wish I could just enjoy her.
I’m a fan of good singing.
Where you enjoy Jackie’s voice, I hear a young girl with some natural talent forcing and darkening her young voice to sound unnaturally older. That trick is very dangerous to her young voice.
She needs to find a good voice teacher and fast before she develops some worse habits.

Beverly Sills was classically trained by Estelle Liebling, a former soprano and voice teacher who was the last student of Mathilde Marchesi. While Sills started voice lessons at a young age, Liebling never forced Sills voice beyond its years. Instead, Sills spent years just learning how to sing properly by mastering vocalises.
When the Sills voice matured with age, the technique was solidly in place.

If young Jackie wants to go down the opera road, she needs to be taught to sing correctly and to learn a correct technique, otherwise she will ruin her voice for opera.

She would be better suited to a pop route, but she still needs to learn to sing correctly and have some formal training. I wish her the best.

I’ll get off my soap box now.

I wish that for you too. Good art is so much more than technical perfection. Above all is the power to touch people through the medium of artistic expression, and Jackie does that like few others.

One of the things people like most about Jackie, is her ability to put so much physical emotion into a song. Watching her sing, it's easy to imagine she's telling a personal story. She really is a visual/auditory experience.

It's hard to overplay something as beautiful as Nessun Dorma.People like to hear it. And, of course, it was popularized by the Pav. As for why a soprano or alto like Jackie E sings it, she sings it because she can.

That link was a better example of the manifestation of Sills' early talent. Whether better than Evancho at tat age, I'll let experts judge.

I don’t know much about opera but I do know that I really can’t stand to listen to this girl sing. I acknowledge that she has a great voice but something about her singing just grates on me. I don’t understand it since I have tried to listen/watch her and wind up walking away perturbed. lol

“Acting comes before singing; acting comes before dance. No matter how well something is sung, it’s missing a lot if it isn’t acted well.”

Acting cannot save a voice that is just not that great.

Most music is listened to, not observed. That is why it takes special talent to put more than just vocal skills, but emotions, into a great performance; emotions such that you can close your eyes and feel the whole thing in your mind.
