Newspaper uses news expression to describe inebriated

A Kuwaiti newspaper has come out with a new expression to describe a drunk man —‘outside the coverage area’ —terminology often used by mobile phone operators.

The Arabic language daily ‘Al Watan’ made the description in a brief report about a 42-year-old local man who was caught by police driving his car while drunk.

A police patrol stopped the man, a bedoun (without identity), after noticing that the vehicle was moving in a zigzag way on the Gulf emirate’s seaside road.

“When police men came close to him, they could smell alcohol. It turned out that the man was ‘outside the coverage area’,” it said.

I like it . . . sure beats being “off the grid.”

Yeah...I like it too. One can have an evening "outside the coverage area" and be "off the grid" or "under the weather" the next day.

It's all about OPSEC.

I was "outside the coverage area" a few weeks ago. I chose to walk home instead of driving (wise move, there), but I had to sit down in a quiet, dark place (out of the view of the cops) until I got a signal.

Should've phoned for a cab. I learned.

After just finishing reading the thread about the active duty perverts ‘performing’ at a military base, I am certain that I am about to go “outside of the coverage area”.
