In Somali culture, women dont strive to become police officers, Kadra Mohamed said.
On Saturday morning, Mohamed was recognized as the first Somali-American woman to join the St. Paul Police Department, a move made possible by the departments announcement that it has approved an option for employees to wear a police-issued hijab.
Its nerve-wracking in a way, Mohamed, 21, said of being the first woman of Somali descent in the department. I want to be a good role model for others, especially Somali women.
Mohamed was recognized at the polices Western District building during a graduation ceremony for youth who recently completed the East African Junior Police Academy.
Police Chief Thomas Smith said St. Paul joins at least one other department in Washington, D.C. as the only departments in the U.S. to allow the hijab, a head scarf worn in public by some Muslim women.

I saw the picture. You know... this really doesn’t bother me.
Another nail in our coffin. If I lived in St. Paul I would get the hell out right now.
I bet they would let Amish (as if they would be a policeman anyway) drive a police buggy.
Kowtowing to Sharia, what a disgrace. Camels nose under the tent.
It is and history has shown that everyone who did that, lived to regret it. The knife being drawn across their throat was usually the last thing they felt. Also, anyone who knows anything about muslims know that if you allow the muslim camel to get his nose under your tent, it is not long before the entire muslim camel is there. Then things go south.
She may be wearing a hijab, but she is also wearing men’s clothing (pants)so many in the Muslim world would see her as a harlot and deserving of death by stoning. Will her religious sensibilities allow her to work with K-9 units or to respond to crimes at liquor stores?
I wonder if they would allow a Catholic to wear a crucifix on her uniform.
then you don’t really understand what they’re doing by these kinds of demands.
As a matter of fact.... YES, that does bother me.
Reasonable accommodations are.... reasonable. Such as the case with this new cop. Clearing out other citizens from a public pool so that Muslims can swim w/o being seen by others is NOT a reasonable accommodation - that is abject surrender to the dictates of a particular religion. AFAIC, I wouldn’t like it any better or worse than the Catholic Church getting a city to require that everybody got to confession.
Just one more thing a drunk can hold onto while fighting her.
Stupid mooslims.
Somali-American.... good grief.
Pick one, sweetheart...you’re either Somali or you’re an American.
