Researchers found relationship between racism and obesity was strongest among women who were frequent victims of prejudice
The study was based on the Black Women's Health Study, which enrolled 59,000 African-American women in 1995 and has followed them since
Workplace and community-based programmes to combat racism are an important component in strategies to prevent obesity, one expert said
There are many reasons why an increasing number of people are classified as obese - and now racism could be one of them.
Frequent experiences of racism are associated with a higher risk of obesity among African American women, a new study claims.
Scientists found that women who were more frequently victimised for their race, were more likely to be obese.
The study, by Slone Epidemiology Centre at Boston University, found the relationship between racism and obesity was strongest among women who reported consistently high experience of racism over a 12 year period.
The research was based on the Black Women's Health Study, which enrolled 59,000 African-American women in 1995 and has followed them since.
While rates of obesity in the U.S. have risen rapidly over the past few decades, the greatest increases have been seen in African American women, half of whom are currently classified as obese.
Obesity is a risk factor for numerous health conditions including cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes and orthopaedic problems.
Scientists said that racism is a form of psychosocial stress that African Americans experience disproportionately.

What is a woman to do when all the electric scooters are in use by other fatass people?
>>shopping for groceries around the first of the month is eye-opening.<<
Here it’s the 5th for some reason. I’d forgotten this fact, and attempted to stop at ‘Save-A-Lot’ on my way home last night to get a roast. All checkout lanes were open, and the lines of chip & pop carts were backed up 10-15 feet into the aisleways.
I turned to my son and said, “Shoot...I forgot it was Food Stamp 5th today.” and we turned around and left. There should be separate lines for cash-paying customers...lol
Having to call 911 to complain that McDonald’s didn’t give you enough French Fries proves discrimination.
I would think that characteristics of their race would be the primary cause. To do it right there needs to be a comparison with the blacks of Africa. Of course, the claim would be that that would be unfair since the diets of the American black and the African black differ. But say it was done and that the two were alike in the propensity to gain weight, well, what happens to the racism claim?
It is not racism that has a link to obesity - it is the politics of victimhood that has a link to obesity.
It’s very simple. People who blame others for ALL of their problems are not going to accept personal responsibility for their own eating and exercise habits.
DARN that racism. Darn it to heck...

However, when you put chains on a Michelin, it does not sing spirituals.
So it’s white peoples fault that most racist blacks and
hispanics are are full figured lardballs? Well then I
guess they should stop their racism.
This is total BS
They are fat because they have no self control.
And many black women have larger posteriors due to racism?

That's true. Notice this: there is a large and growing black middle class. Middle-class black women are of normal weight or a little overweight, just like middle-class white women.
There is also a black upper class. (I'm not talking about rich blacks like Oprah and hiphop stars, but black people who have had their money for generations, send their kids to private schools, and vacation in Italy.) Upper-class black ladies are slender just like upper-class white ladies. Almost certainly the self-discipline that allowed them to get to that level of prosperity and success is the same trait that lets them keep their weight under control.
There is some low-income housing near me, cute little townhouses that were bought by the Housing Opportunity Commission. Some of them are occupied by the kind of people you'd want to have as neighbors: legal immigrants or maybe divorced moms who are just temporarily down on their luck and need a little help. They work hard, study, control their kids, go to church, keep their jobs, take care of their yards, and move up and out quickly. But there are others who show plainly what the problem is. I worked with many of them in my previous job. I never met one who was self-disciplined. I never met one who got up in the morning and went for a long hard walk to lose weight, studied, showed up for 6:30 or 9 a.m. morning mass, industriously cleaned the house, stuck to a schedule, or otherwise showed he or she had the determination and focus to control his or her circumstances. This is why they are fat and this is also why they encounter the suspicion and disgust they interpret as racism.
And by the way, you will find those upper-class black ladies are also pretty contemptuous of the obese lazy unfocused lower-class ones.
WHITEY: When you need someone to blame for your own failings
We have the fattest “poor” people in the world!
Even the bugs are racist!
Your right.
Mexico takes title of “most obese” from America

How does a third world country get this way? Supposedly
from drinking too many American soft drinks.

BS
Look at photographs made prior to 1964, of say, the Civil Rights Marches.
Not ONE obese African\American female.
In today's world, the reason for your fat is racism, food deserts, hormones, thyroids, genetics, chemicals in food, plastic containers, blah, blah, blah.
Never your own damn responsibility.
