HOUSTON - A woman is in in the hospital with very serious injuries after being viciously attacked by two dogs in southeast Houston.
The victim, Monica Garza, is at Memorial Hermann Hospital Southeast. Her brother says she is stable and responding well to treatment and alive because of what he says is one man's selfless act.
Charles Jordan has some injuries to show for his heroics. But they are nothing compared to what Garza endured.
"They told us, 'I think she has 56 bites,'"
...
One had her by the arm and the other had her by the leg and they were just pulling her apart," he said.
The 63-year-old immediately tried to get between Garza, an avid runner, and the two pit bulls. They were unrelenting.
"I just kept kicking that dog and kicking that dog and it wasn't going to stop," said Jordan. "It was determined to get to that girl."

Guys got guts, too bad he wasnt armed.
There are people who love their pit, many don’t know what a pit is.
Pit bulls were bread for one thing - fighting in a pit.
Until the look is kept and the instinct is bred out they will continue to be ....
It is NOT their fault, it just is they way it is,
I’m all for less government and fewer laws but the argument that pit bulls are dangerous because of bad owners just doesn’t sit right with me.
They kill and maim many people every year, it seems more so than other breeds and even some of their owners.
Right. So, one unleashed pit, who is with its owner, just so happens to meet up with a "solo" pit. Sure, that sounds plausible.
I carry a weapon just for this purpose when I walk my dog.
so will the left ban pitbulls next?
gotta jog armed. there are nice shirts for snugly holding a weapon and extras.
“so will the left ban pitbulls next?”
I don’t know, but I’ve reached the point where I think states should require a special license that shows an owner has trained their dog and is responsible before they can have a pit. Most I meet are not good dog owners.
I was personally attacked by a pit bull once. Fortunately, I was walking down a hallway carrying a samsonite suitcase. When it attacked from behind, I swung the ballistic denier suitcase between us and it couldn’t bite through it - though it tried to jump over it. Withing a minute, the owner came running and grabbed it. He did not expect the pit to do that. It had never done anything like that before. Which is the problem. I emerged unscathed because I had a protected area and a suitcase.
If my neighbor destroyed my dog I would make it my business to destroy my neighbor. There now we both said something extremely stupid.
Garbage breed favored by trashy people.
Must be regional, cause I don't understand what you just said. But I clearly understood you to say that if a neighbor got a Pitbull you would kill it. All I am saying is someone kills my dog I return the favor, but not his dog. You seem to be just a tad hyperbolic, calm down, it's not good for your blood pressure.
I’m with Eric, I’ve witnessed a loving pitbull in a loving family turn on the family in the blink of an eye. Luckily it only killed the family goat before getting shot, but they had this dog from a puppy and was 5 years old.
If one of my neighbors got a pit, as I have kids as well, that pit wouldn’t last long. I’d try to appeal to reason first, but in the end, I will protect my family from what I see as a threat.
Gosh darn and heck, you all make me so proud to be living in America! How gosh darn special of you to decide what kind of pet I might be allowed to have. God bless our free country and thank God I don’t live anywhere near you who decide guilt before a crime. Well that’s it for me tonight I can’t take any more of this gosh darn wonderful Americanism you folks are showing me. And for the record when I said if someone killed my animal I would return the favor? Not hyperbole.
I’m not American, I’m Albertan, and if you’re making veiled threats against a person because you choose to own a historically dangerous dog, that’s your business, but don’t be so sure it’d work out.
