Posted on 03/06/2014 7:37:42 PM PST by Kartographer
In recent months ammunition has slowly begun appearing on store shelves at major retailers in the United States. But after nearly two years of shortages that had ammunition manufacturers running their factories 24 hours a day, 7 days a week because of consumer demand and massive government purchases, it appears that another supply pipeline may have been cut.

I am so screwed. Plus I just got well from pneumonia.
Buy ATK stock.
Will .22LR ever make a comeback?
I put up reloading supplies some time back, also got alloy ingots and bullet molds.
IK got an e-mail this afternoon about Classic having got in some .22 Long Rifle Match Grade and guest what? They are already sold out.
Anyone who puts that Russian crap in their weapons deserves the jams.
2160 rounds not one jam not one fail to fire in my ‘Bulgy’ AK74.
Its the go to round. Millions of .22LR rifles out there. Look at a nickle..Its worth a nickle...whats a .22 round worth?? Hmmnn ...More than a nickle. Buy when you can on the cheap. Or just buy.
Russia Has Reportedly Halted All Exports To The US Of Russian Made Ammunition
Unless Putin has some plan to invade the US, I think this move is a little short sighted for someone who is supposed to be so good at chess.
I think it will be the dollar bill after the troubles and the .223 will be the twenty and the 9mm the five.
The government is buying it and destroying it. They have to be. It is (was) cheap and easy to amass large stockpiles quickly. There’s no other logical explanation for its sudden and prolonged disappearance from the market.
The .22 Magnum is the $10 bill. But...you cant really find it so who knows.
I run Russian surplus 7.62 x 54R through my Mosin exclusively. Can’t remember the last time it jammed, and I’m using 10 round mags (with an Archangel stock).
“Theres no other logical explanation for its sudden and prolonged disappearance from the market.”
Well, except for, you know, the fact that people who are paranoid about the government buying everything they can get their hands on.
I have ATK, OLN, SWHC & RGR.
ATK & OLN will do very nicely in the coming months, as they have over the past 2yrs.
Right, except the stuff never makes it to the shelf. Otherwise, great theory.
I’m glad you had the antibiotic - you must have it when you have bacterial pneumonia. I’m glad you are getting well.
Sure it does. Go to Walmart early in the morning the day they get their shipments and watch all the private citizens snap it up in minutes. If you’re going to stores where it doesn’t hit the shelves, then they are reserving it for other customers.
I love it. Cut the risk with COP KMB GNRC etc.
You need to get a boat that doesn't tip over so easily.
They bring out the ammo on Saturday mornings, 7 am. I know the drill, it’s been going on for a year and a half. If you’re lucky, they get four or five 550 round boxes at a time and there’s a line 20 deep. Most days, they get nothing. 9mm is almost as bad, but not quite.
It’s not making it to the shelves. Anyone here who buys ammo can attest to this fact.
Can you reload me some .22 LR? Thanks.
They’re made to handle that stuff. The chambers are so loose, you almost never need to clean those things.
People are trying to make money here...
Most people way over purchased most will not be buying more.
The bubble popped....
I have adequate stores of all calibers and ample stock of some. If I were younger I might not say so.
I would like to have a few more boxes of 8mm Mauser that is not corrosive. Might could use a few more boxes of .380 but I shoot it so seldom that it doesn’t matter that much.
I am particularly well off in .22LR, 9mm and .177 pellets.
You shouldn’t have any problem getting .380. Walmart gets it weekly, and it usually lasts beyond the initial rush.
As a former Marine whose brother Marines were killed by AK’s, I refuse to own a Combloc weapon.
I think I only have 2 or 3 boxes of .380 but I almost never fire mine. Probably just not worry about it. If I were in my 20s I would get some more.
Glad I’m not running Ruski ammo. They can stick it all up there you know what. I heard a rumor Ukraine may have gazillions of that stuff stored in a mine. Might be a good time for them to dump it. An enterprising importer should check it out and if true head for Kiev to parlay.
Looks like this is true. First time I've never seen any Russian surplus on Cheaper than Dirt.
Only Hungarian available.
They have need of it themselves...
22 magnum was easy to find as recently as Christmas - got a few thousand more rounds. A bit more pricey than the 22L, (and no gain in muzzle velocity, unfortunately, just noise and kick) but available. I and wife have three guns chambered in it.
I just picked up 420 rounds of M855 ball last week. I’ll grab another 420 at least this week. I may just grab a thousand. I’m well stocked on .45, 9 mm, .308, 500 mag. and 300 win mag too. I plan on spending a lot of time at the range this summer. I can’t wait. All this winter is killing me.
Doubt it. Both sides know whoever shoots first loses.
Get Me Some, Please.
We’ve got your back.
Agree, there is no way that market forces can produce a shortage of 22LR lasting over a year.
22LR is the ordinary simple stuff which people use to put food on the table in hard times. Somebody does not want the American people to be able to do that.
If you have a weapon that DOESN’T shoot Russian, well, good luck.
I cornered Cabbelas when my CCI .22LR went over a year. They said bulk packaging was the problem. They delivered my order
in 375rd boxes @ 20.00 per. It was either that or just keep waiting.
The only thing I can figure out is (in my conspiratorial mind)... if the folks who want to buy the ammo know they have to come in early they will be semi-massed together and be easier to photograph/get license plates/track all at once. Otherwise, with plentiful supplies, THEY would have to hang around the Walmart all day long and ammo buyers would get all mixed up with the casual shoppers.
The idea of panic/paranoia buying doesn’t hold up logically. There have been no reports of the fed buying .22LR. They don’t use it. Why would there be an 18 month run on the one round we all know the gov’t has no use for? It doesn’t make any sense.
The manufacturers are still making it, yet only scraps are showing up in the retail stores. It’s going somewhere. If anyone has a better, less sinister, guess as to where, I’m all ears.
I’m going to pick up a couple of ‘range packs’ of 9 x 18 for my CZs
That’s ok time is coming soon where you will have a good chance of being shot with a good old American made weapon.
My grandson wanted to compete in some shooting sport that takes .22LR so I pulled out some of the ammo that no one knew I had. Phew, it was hollow point and he couldn’t use it.
Ammo is incredibly expensive, if you can even get it.
Reloading supplies are incredibly expensive, if you can get them.
You can still get pellets and pellet guns. Lots of options too. Very accurate.
Great for practice. Great for teaching new shooters to shoot. Great for small game, especially in .22 or .25 caliber.
Not great for self defense, but better than nothing.
Not sure how long until the run starts on pellets...
