Why would there be an 18 month run on the one round we all know the gov’t has no use for? It doesn’t make any sense.

It makes perfect sense to me.

How many new shooters are there? All of these people need ammo and must compete for it with people who have been shooting for many years. And what makes the pipeline so tight is the fact that it is the only type of ammo which cannot be reloaded.

Sorry, but I’ve never had an issue with it. Trick is, clean the gun...

> Will .22LR ever make a comeback?

After a year of unsuccessfully trying to buy .22LR ammo, I purchased a nice high end gas-piston pellet rifle that shoots .22 pellets at the same muzzle velocity as a rimfire.
It’s also just as loud, so I can’t just plink in the back yard; I have to go to a range.

I already had COP, WY & KMB in my portfolio; just bought a nice chunk of GNRC on Thursday morning thru my broker.

What do you think, under normal circumstances, they would have to replace their entire stock every week?

“Fedzilla has placed such huge orders for asap delivery”

The same size order that they have placed in the past, which caused no shortage, and they are not for “asap delivery”, but spaced out over periods of years, with delivery not even guaranteed.

I kinda found out what the deal on 22 was at a gun show when I heard one of the ammo dealers taking.

Ever since the beginning of the last run, these guys have been putting steady backorders into wholesalers and sites like Midway.

Order a block of a couple thousand and they have to wait six months for the back order to come in. The problem is that they are keeping the backorders flowing, basically cornering the market so they can keep gouging.

Of course the wholesalers work the big orders first-that’s business, but it allows these scum to continue to gouge us by keeping the market wrapped up.

My Walmart doesn’t even have shelf space labeled for .22lr anymore ... or for many of the usual rifle or pistol rounds. LOTS of variety in 12guage though.

IMI is NOT Comblock - it is Israeli Military Industries. They make some of the best ammo out there, and I especially appreciate the super high quality brass that they have in all calibers.

I love the 74 platform. Extremely reliable, and for now, before any import ban I am expecting any time now, THE cheapest ammunition available.

I had an AR that would jam. This thing (AK74) doesn’t know how to jam.

The Russians do some things very very well, and this was one of them.

Mr. GG2 checked around. He says there is still plenty of Russian ammo available.

"The Russians do some things very very well, and this was one of them."

You got that right! At the time I got my 'Bulgy' and 2160 rounds of ammo for less than the cheapest AR.

I wanted something dependable that I could afford and afford to feed.

Yes you can buy a Lexus RX 350, but why when a Dodge Durango will do?

If you want some 5.45 before it is all sold out (Widners is out now) you can still get it pretty cheap here;

Go to Walmart early in the morning the day they get their shipments and watch all the private citizens snap it up in minutes.

I tried that at Walmart 2years ago. I started by complaining that they are always sold out. The guy explained that people always show up the day they get their supply and it's usually sold out in a day or two. I asked them when their next shipment comes in. He said nobody knows. They never know whats coming on what trucks until they unload it to restock. I argued that somebody knows! I've never been in line at Walmart to buy ammunition even when they used to have it.

I asked a manager at the gun range I go to why they always have ammunition when people want to rent range time or buy a firearm but never over the counter to purchase and walk out. He told me they'd have a hard time renting range time if the customers had to throw stones at the targets. Humbled, I bought 30 minutes and 200 rnds.

It’s going somewhere. If anyone has a better, less sinister, guess as to where, I’m all ears.

I say it's with all the socks that mysteriously disappear in the laundry cycle. You find those unmatched socks, you'll find multiple lifetimes of .22LR ammunition. I'm sure of it.

Will .22LR ever make a comeback?

I used to use .22LR to excess because it was convenient and inexpensive, even when not the best tool for the job. I should have been using other arms all along, but it took the rimfire ammunition speculators to drive prices up to get me off my cheap, lazy butt and do some things right. I now use a .177 "springer" air rifle or a centerfire handgun for so much of what I used to use a .22LR for that I have sold all but one of my rimfire rifles. In that respect, the .22LR shortage may have been a blessing in disguise on a personal level. ("Lemons into lemonade" and all that.)

I suppose .22LR ammo will return to availability and cost levels that are closer to the "old days" than currently, but I won't be needing as much in the future.

I would love to have more but I stocked up 2 years ago and will have enough, I hope.

Sure would like to get more so I can comfortably hit the range on a regular basis.
