Apple upgrades almost always include new or enhanced features and usability improvements. This one is no exception.

Nothing like a Microsoft “upgrade” that is almost always a bloated mess that does nothing but correct some mistakes.

Perhaps you misread what I wrote? This update fixes issues I was having. I prefer to hold the button down when asking Siri to do something, then let the button go when I’m done speaking.

Also, I use the fingerprint log-in function, and occasionally it won’t read my fingerprint. So any improvement here is worthy.

I like Siri just the way it is right now. I don’t want to have to continuously hold down a button to talk to her.

What if it were an emergency situation and you could only hold long enough to activate but not long enough to get whatever message out that is necessary?

I don’t have fingerprint function on my iPhone so that is not an issue for me.

I know how to fix it, but it’s not an easy fix as it requires accessing the iPhone’s file system and deleting three files and allowing the phone to rebuild the thumbnail file. Once that is done, the deletion will work again.

Yikes, I don’t want to go there. Think I’ll wait for the Apple fix for photos problem.

Also does Siri sound more human? I like the robot sound.

Do you sync photos with iTunes on your Mac? That’s probably where they’re coming from. I don’t check that option that for that very reason. I only do the one way transfer (camera sync import into iPhoto) from iphone / iPad one way during a cable sync, and then have the transferred photos deleted from iPad.

Siri still works the old way. It’s just that now you have the option of push to talk when you have a lengthy sentence where Siri might interpret a pause to be the end.

“you have the option of push to talk”

Can you explain how option works? TIA

I hate to download when I don’t know options.

Instead of holding the home button until Siri comes up and then releasing; you keep holding the button until you’re finished speaking, and then release.

Like I said, the old way that you’re accustomed to still works, but the ‘addition’ of the PTT ability helps keep Siri from interpreting a pause as the end of the sentence, command or query. I’ve had this happen on occasion.

So don’t worry about it, and don’t let it keep you from the update.

Thanks for the info. Now I just have to make sure my iphoto isn’t syncing with my iphone so that I avoid the issue currently plaguing Swordmaster.

No, I had not. I found the spurious photos after upgrading to iOS 7.1 some 50 miles away from my computer that I normally use for iTunes backup. The photos were still on my iPhone in a "sync" folder although they had long ago been deleted and/or synced to my iPhoto on my computer and "deleted" on my phone or a previous iPhone as part of the import process. The upgrade process somehow caused a rewriting of three thumbnail files that also read the sync folder that for some unknown reason keeps long deleted photos around. The file that has to be deleted are all photos in the sync folder you don't want, and then the thumbnail files. This has to be done with a computer:

Restart the iPhone (I had to restart twice) and the spurious photos in your Camera Roll will go bye-bye.

Update complete, no problems, easy peasy.

Did you notice the new icon when the phone rings? Very cool.
