Authorities are investigating after $600,000 in checks and cash was stolen from a safe at Pastor Joel Osteen's Houston megachurch, which has one of the largest congregations in the country.
Police spokesman Kese Smith said Tuesday $200,000 in cash and $400,000 in checks were stolen from a safe sometime between 2:30 p.m. Sunday and 8:30 a.m. Monday.

That was just the petty cash box.
So if I understand correctly, the “offering plate” is fully insured?
$600,000+ for one weekend, wow, and that's just the amount reported stolen.
But, the short-list of suspects should be quite short, like maybe one person if there are any controls, to have had access.
$600,000 take in one weekend. And that doesn’t even count book sales.
People give Olsteen their credit card numbers. I guess so he can grab some cash if he comes up a little short. What a fraud!
In a statement issued Monday, Lakewood Church said the money and checks taken, as well as some envelopes with written credit card information, were limited to funds given during this past weekend's Saturday and Sunday services.
There’s more where that came from, as the late great Dr. Gene Scott would say, “now get on that telephone!”
Quite a haul, and the theft is nothing to sniff at...
What does it say about a church when the first person I would look into would be its senior pastor?
Gene was great when he got wound up.
I confess, I took the money. After it multiplies 100 fold I will return the initial cash along with an additional twenty percent. Please forgive me, and be patient.
That holy roller stuff must pay off, or as P.T. Barnum used to say:
There's a sucker born every minute. Never mind....
He was THE BEST!
When mrs p6 went into labor with one of our 3 kids she was in a "family room" delivery room at the hospital...bed, couch, big TV, just like home.
But it was late at night on a weekend and the ONLY thing on TV was Dr Eugene Scott. For some reason it was a Scott Marathon all night.
She had never seen him but I had watched him before and enjoyed his...presentation.
So all night long during her labor she had to watch Dr Scott with the hat, cigar, black jacket, sunglasses ...and the ponies. Dr Scott loved the ponies and maybe that's why I, being somewhat of a harness racing fan, enjoyed watching him.
Out of our three children that delivery is the only one we like to reminisce about.
Grape juice is for closers!
I’m missing it???
So that’s 40,000 people giving an average of $15 each.
Not really out of line.
“The theft was reported Monday morning by a church employee and an off-duty sheriff’s deputy who provides security at the facility.”
Watch: it was these two.
I just saw this story on charter.net ... in the entertainment section.
When I Gene Scott’s wife on TV, I wondered “Who I THAT?!? Her hair is amazing!”... I then found out who she was... or rather... what her history is.
apparently, someone else wanted to be as wealthy as this false preacher!
I love opera--best voices in the world. Many of the country western voices are ALSO fabulous. Too bad, in my opinion, they end up singing music where they have to hold their nose to get the requisite WHINY sound. Opera will be around in 2000 years but country western music won't. We are STILL listening to music and singing that is hundreds of years old. It HAS stood the test of time.
I remember Dionne Warwick singing a duet with Luciano Pavarotti, the finest tenor of the 20 century. SHE had the mike and he stood back five feet, no mike, of course, so his voice wouldn't OVERWHELM her sweet, lovely but tiny voice.
That’s Gene Scotts last wife. She took over the “ministry” after he died.
“Im missing it???”
Jean Simmons in “Elmer Gantry”.
My pic is of Gene Scotts wife, who took over the “ministry” after he died.
Werner Herzog made a Dr. Gene Scott documentary decades ago (I have not watched it but from what I understand, he was granted personal access).
It’s called God’s Angry Man and is on youtube. I think Criterion was planning to release it to DVD but I don’t know if that happened.
Gee whiz, tell me what network she is on and I will IMMEDIATELY turn it on, keep in on and get out my checkbook.
I wonder what she did with all his hats.
What goes around comes around.
I wouldn't want to be him when he dies and has to explain his lifetimeFRAUDforJesus to our Lord.
