With all due respect to Mr. Carnipe, there's the action that started a tragic and unnecessary course of action.
First rule of thumb is to remain in one's vehicle with hands clearly visible on the steering wheel, and wait for the officer to give you instructions.
It seems every time one of these things happens it's because people either don't know what to do/how to act when they get pulled over (as is I suspect the case here) or they just act like idiots because they think they can.
So, if a cop "feels threatened" he is free to gun you down?
But if you are a citizen and feel the cop is threatening your life, just sit there and hope he does not execute you?
That's about it. Because if you make a sudden move he may shoot you. I'm not saying the cop is in the right.
That is the primary justification for cop shootings: “The officer felt threatened.” Doesn’t matter whether the threat was real or not.

Exactly right. Blaming Obama is a diversion from where the responsibility lies.
there is NO standardized protocol for traffic stops.
***How about this? A bumper sticker that signals to cops that the person who is stopped will act in a pre-described fashion, whether that is getting out or staying in with your hands on the wheel or whatever is proscribed by the 0rganization described y the bumper sticker. And as far as I’m concerned, whatever that cooperation is, it also includes video surveillance of the scene.

I suppose that would work, but I really don’t understand why there can’t be ONE standard throughout the country. When you are pulled over by the police do this:(stay in your car; get out of your car; put your hands out the window.)Just decide dammit and stick to it!
It’s stuff like that which a lame duck president could establish and everyone would be better off for it.
He was firing for effect, he just was not very effective. That no one was killed is because of the Grace of God, not the deputy. the deputy made an honest effort to kill the old man.

The cop screwed up. He knew he screwed up. He asked several times, "Please Lord forgive me." He told the old man several times how sorry he was.
At the end of the video, the cop was crying like a baby for what he had done.
The POS in this was the other black officer that kept telling him that HE DID WHAT HE HAD TO DO!
...and called him "Brother".
That is a very strange post.
While I do believe you are correct in most cases, this case is clear from the video. This flatfoot was scared sh!tless.
