I’m afraid to watch.
If it sucks, I’ll never be able to forgive myself.
Eh.
Fallon is awful.
I would like to see Obama and Biden do that script. Only problem is who would play the dumb one? Somebody is supposed to be smart as contrast, for this skit to work.
Don’t bother, it sucks. Watch the original instead.
Ug, Jimmy Fallon.
I’m also afraid to look. Abbott and Costello had both chemistry and years of experience, playing off each others lines. Like a well-oiled machine. Even before they teamed together, Abbott was considered one of the sharpest “straight men” in the business. I don’t always find ALL of their schtick amusing, but I’m usually awestruck by their timing and their talent.
Thanks.
Well said.
You know it’s bad when after all of their improvemnets to the routine, they have to explain the joke.
I can’t find anything funny about any of these guys, so . . . I’ll pass.
Clever take but it isn’t the original by a mile. IMHO.
The Sesquehenah Hat skit is much funnier than the Base Ball routine.
Anyone trying to out do Abbot & Costello Who’s on First is a fool.
Leave it alone, it stands the test of time.
I know this will be horrible without even watching it.
Having said that, Billy Crystal did a funny “Who’s on First” in an old movie or TV show. Probably back from the 80s. I can’t remember what it was called but he was putting a comedy show together and the guy he was doing it with didn’t get the joke. He also played a Catskills comedian who got a 50s children’s TV show. It was pretty funny.
Watching those guys try their hand at that skit only serves to remind me what geniuses Abbott and Costello were.
Read the thread first so I’m not going to look.
However, I do think Jerry Seinfeld achieved greatness with several of the one on one scenes in his TV show, by emulating his childhood heroes, Abbott and Costello.
There were several scenes that are absolutely gems of comic classic timing in Seinfeld. The one where, in the coffee shop, Jerry chides George for eating the eclair from the trash can, and the one where Elaine is in Jerry’s apartment telling him that her date took. It. Out. Are two that come to mind immediately. You can see the work that went Into those scenes and they were brilliant. I can’t not laugh every time I see them.

The only thing I've ever seen come close was Johnny Carson and Jack Webb do a bit about some missing copper clappers - ala Dragnet

The best I could muster was a smile, but that was because I thinking about Abbot and Costello.
