Chilean and French scientists have discovered a network of underground caves on a remote island in Patagonia that could provide valuable clues as to how continents were formed.

I wonder if they've checked out the above-ground caves?

:’) I think there’s an ESL problem underlying this article, but “underground caves”, while amusing, typically refer to caves which have no obvious entrance. Those can be submerged entrances (as here, apparently), or caves which formerly had entrances which have been covered for long periods of time.
