Vanity: Netflix labels some gay/lesbian movies as "Romantic" films.

Posted on 03/15/2014 8:20:24 PM PDT by Mich Patriot

I've never posted a thread before, but I thought FReepers might want this information. I just contacted Netflix to let them know that I do NOT want to see Gay / Lesbian films listed under the "Romance" category. I've been a Netflix subscriber since the early days, but this is my second dispute with them the last few months (the first was over the Sarah Palin bashing tweet from April, 2013).

I told them that I understand they may have a market for these films, but listing them under "Romance" amounts to pushing their GLBT agenda on customers, and that in doing so, they stand to lose a lot of conservative subscribers. They apologized and said they would mark my account so these films would not appear in my searches, but I insisted that they should never have defaulted these films under the "Romance" category to begin with.

I encourage other like-minded Netflix subscribers to voice your displeasure over this. I used the "Contact us" link at the bottom of the page, and chose the "chat" option.

So you didn’t cancel your subscription?

Now let's not get all hysterical and everything... :-)

Wonder if prissy little Sean Hannity is still a proud HBO subscriber/financier after Bill Maher's flaming anti-G-d rant the other day?

Not to sound like a total homophobe...

Freepers...PLEASE quit using the language of the left...'homophobia' doesn't exist, and sodomites aren't 'gay'; they are queer.

Well how can I NOT check it out now? What is the show actually called? Thanks.

"Is there another option we have for movies and TV shows?"

Great question. The fact that I don't have an answer probably explains why I still have Netflix.

That sounds like a good idea.

I know someone who started going to yard sales and flea markets every weekend, and he amassed a collection of at least 200 DVDs. I tried it myself but still had trouble finding family-friendly movies. Still, at least then we would have better control over what comes into our homes.

I've been using Netflix streaming for years and never had a homosexual movie pushed at me. All my suggested picks are based on movies/TV shows I have watched in the past (and rated highly).

So I would have to surmise that somebody is using your account (perhaps a family member?) that is watching homosexual movies and thus that is how they are getting into your recommended queues.

Yep, Broke back could be a horror movie.I’ll never know. I have never seen that movie, and have no desire to ever see it.

Have you found a way to prevent the movies from showing up yet? I checked all my settings and verified that that my preferences was all set to never for these type of shows but I still get these movies popping up in my lists. For every movie of this type in that list, one I may have like got bumped. I can sort through the crap I don’t like but when I go out of my way to configure my settings to state my viewing preferences and they are ignored. I wish there was a button to select Never Suggest genre A, B, C.... That way anyone can restrict the suggestions they don’t want to see regardless of the type.

Netflix is HQ’ed in Gaylicon Valley, CA. Must be a new corporate push.

Maybe they need to change the genre title to “HETEROSEXUAL” romance if the librarians are going to take titles out of the “gay/lesbian” section and put them into general population as “something else”.

I cancelled my subscription and switched to Amazon. However, Amazon similarly presents that degrading filth as mainstream. How can it be we've degenerated that far that fast?

Homosexuals have infiltrated the "filtering" positions. Their numbers are greater than 10% of the newrooms, they push agenda items as top news stories.

They comprise a sizable percent of casts on tv programs (either as gay characters or the "likable" male lead in a hetero relationship while being outwardly gay in their public/private life offscreen).

Jack Parr observed 5 decades ago about how they bring their own into the workplace and shift the focus of storytelling towards their interests.

I give them 1-star ratings. Sinks the overall ratings tally. Voting “not interested” keeps them “highly rated”.

And they will infiltrate the military in the same way.

It would be nice to be able to opt out of some title types (I don’t want episodic television, ultimate fighting, wrestling, Dora, et al suggested to me).

When I look at the “new releases” these often are among the highlighted titles (and they never list ALL of the new DVDs they received that week/month).

One way to get better suggestions (outside of “New Releases”) is to rate hundreds of movies some day. Start by looking up an actor or director who’s work you like. Highly rate all of the ones you liked. When those suggest 5 titles to you, rate each of those.

The more you do rate, the better the algorithms get, but they aren’t that great.

But I don’t want them to be able to pinpoint my mind so much anyway.

And academia and newsrooms and the medical profession.

They already have.

Too bad there isn’t a Christian version of Netflix.

That would be great.

In the meantime, Dallas59 posted links to Christian options in post #28:
