Saudi Woman Lived 100 Years as Beggar… (Died a Millionaire)

A Saudi woman lived as a beggar most of her life until she was 100 years. When she died, she left behind millions and four buildings.

Known as Aisha, the woman had told a neighbour just before her death to give her money to authorities as she had no relatives.

Okaz newspaper estimated her wealth at SR five million (Dhfive million) plus four large buildings in the western Red Sea port of Jeddah, where Aisha had practiced her begging profession for more than 50 years.

“She had around SRfour million in cash, more than SR one million in gold coins and four buildings,” it said, quoting a neighboring man, who said he had served her for many years before she died this week.

“Before her death, she asked me to inform authorities and hand all her money and properties to them. I have handed her wealth to a dignitary in our neighborhood in the presence of all other dignitaries. He made a pledge to take the necessary procedures to hand the wealth to the authorities shortly.”

The money should go back in some sort of item that all the people can benefit. She mooched the money from them all those years.

The Riyal equals about 27 cents. So, it’s about a million and a quarter, give or take.

She had the same name as Muhammad’s child wife, who was also very wealthy. I have always suspected that Muhammad wanted to marry Aisha so he could get her money. Is it possible this woman kept her money a secret so she wouldn’t be forced to marry some stinking moneygrubber.

Living as a Saudi woman for 100 years sounds like torture.

It appears that a formal definition of beggar needs to be created if it has not been done already. Could be a new curriculum at any University. Wait until you see a professional beggar show up as a valued expert in the subject on a news show. The IRS could force declaration of earnings quarterly. Think of the regulations, forms, licensing, cards, websites, out of town seminars, webinars!

I can only imagine massive cultural disdain and mistreatment for a woman out on the street like that.

In nations like Iran and Saudi Arabia, the man can divorce her on a whim but she can’t get a divorce without his permission or a powerful relative getting involved.
Let’s say she was begging for her support, because her husband and then children all neglected to provide. She invested the money in property, the only way she could do anything with it.
She’s choosing to give it to the government than leave it to relatives who either didn’t take care of her or care. And giving it to the government is the only action she can take in a bequest that would stand up in court, whereas leaving it to a female relative, female friend or charity might be challenged by a cousin’s grandson or some other relative with blood ties but no concern for her when alive.
