Japan: Crimean attorney general inspires anime fan art

In Japan, people watching events unfolding in Crimea appear to have become captivated by the region's newly-appointed attorney general.

Clips of a press conference with Natalia Poklonskaya have been shared widely on Japanese platforms, says website Rocketnews24. She was appointed to the post on 11 March and formerly served as a senior prosecutor for the city of Simferopol.

In particular, one video in which Poklonskaya listens to a reporter's question has been viewed nearly 300,000 times since it was posted to a Japanese YouTube channel. There is no translation of her answer. Some people appear to be so taken with the seemingly charming prosecutor, they are turning out manga images and anime fan art inspired by her.

[ No, I think its just another variation on school-girl fantasy voyeurism for geeky Japanese guys. ]

Too many series are like that, I really like the series that are from adapted Novels, rather than ones from Manga.

Things like The Twelve Kingdoms, and Banner of the Stars.

Not all that strange to observe a correlation between an arrested state of emotional development in a dictator and the fact that he might prefer women who look like cartoons...

Most all Dictators are emotionally immature and stunted either due to the syphilitic brain damage or mental poisoning in the mind by socialism that keeps the stuck thinking in kindergarten terms when it comes to culture and economics.

There is something going on with the DNA of Ukrainian women. I’ve noticed many times before that they’ve been blessed with an unusually high percentage of -very- attractive women.

Yeah, but, well how should I put this delicately? They’ve got the looks I grant you but erm the personal hygiene thing is a bit of an issue for me. Not sure whether it’s the cold winters or what but washing, especially the interesting bits, doesn’t seem to be such a priority.

I’ve been around eastern and central Europe a bit and there’s no doubt they’re lookers but that issue was a bit of a deal breaker for me.

I like SE Asia now, two showers a day and always washing the intimate areas thoroughly when they go to the bathroom.

Okay...you have officially broken my brain with that one.

Well, do keep in mind that I didn't draw those cartoons. Nor am I a fan of Manga or Anime. I did want to point out that this phenomenon is neither new, nor, as you notice, even the weirdest manifestation of this kind of thing.

What first broke my brain many years ago, and from which it has recovered quite well as I got older, thanks for asking, is how much forgiveness we grant to evil people who happen to be beautiful. This prosecutor is a tool of an evil regime. She may be "not guilty" in the usual FR comedy sense, but she is quite guilty of being part of the machinery of oppression, and that makes her ugly where it matters.

She’s just got an anime face and eyes. Her presence in the middle of an international incident such as this, looking vaguely childlike and quite pretty as she does, is right up the alley of the Japanese. They’re just different that way. For those who are somehow outraged by this, know that it’s pretty innocent by their standards, there are far more outrageous examples. There are also very mainstream examples going back almost fifty years, for example the original Speed Racer.

Has your experience with Slavic women been limited to drug-addled prostitutes? I ask because my experiences with the various Russian and Ukrainian women I've encountered throughout my travels has been entirely the opposite. In fact, I've found them fastidious regarding matters of hygiene, much moreso than American women.

Pretty certain they weren’t prostitutes and I have never had anything to with drug users.

Touchy aren’t you?
