I’m all for chipping pets, but I am glad the supervisor for my district is Greg Caput. It is a rare Santa Cruz politician who recognizes that just because something is a good idea it does not mean it should become mandatory. I hope he is running for re-election. There are a couple doofuses already campaigning to replace him.

If you have a debit/credit card or a driver’s license, you’re already in the matrix.

The rest of it is pretty much moot.

It’s too late.

Microchips saved many a dog after Katrina. I think its a great idea for pets and a responsible thing to do. Microchips save many lost dogs from being euthanized and I’ve seen a couple returned after they were stolen. My dog and cat both have microchips.

My neighborhood does an email blast when pets are found. If the owner does not come foward we read the chip and try to send home.

After that, they are put up for adoption. It’s pretty fast.

Santa Cruz County pet owners will soon be required to insert microchips into their dogs and cats.

And eventually, Santa Cruz Animal Control will be able to determine if a dog has an owner or is a stray to be collected and disposed of.

You put a collar on your neighbor?

Now, that there is a hell of an idea. I have some neighbors who could benefit from that. Alright...I would benefit from it but what the heck.
