MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) Theres a new bundle of joy on display on the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources website. Early Tuesday morning, an eagle chick hatched in the nest watched by the DNR EagleCam, according to DNR Public Affairs Officer Harland Hiemstra. Last year, all three eggs laid by the eagles froze in the January cold. There are two more eggs to go this year, and both are expected to hatch with help from the warmer temperatures expected this weekend.
Wow! That’s REAL hi-def...
She is sitting on 3 eggs.
They have been doing this for a while and it shows.
Do they have a nest nearby?
WOOHOO! I’m thrilled to see this. The first time I checked that cam this year, the poor parent on the nest was surrounded by several inches of snow on the nest. Haven’t checked it for a few days but will check every day now. I hope the other two eggs hatch, too.
This cam was the most recent addition to my long list of nest cams. Keeping up with all of them is gonna eat into FReep time. LOL!
Yeah, it’s been a tough spring around here. Single digits overnight again tonight.
Yeah, it’s been tough up there, no doubt! I know y’all are more than ready for the cold to skedaddle! It’s been nasty enough here in TN - we had snow showers today - and we haven’t suffered nearly the intense cold y’all have.
I’ll be fretting over this little eaglet and hoping it’ll survive. And that it’ll have nest-mates.
I think they’ll nest in the marshes nearby.
There is an eagles nest down the shore from or cabin in Canada. We usually go up there for a late season fishing trip in late March (tomorrow actually). The Eagles are usually there by then. They’re tough birds.
Been watching at least four years and they have never had frozen eggs. The fledge is something to watch.
Number two hatched today!
WOOHOO!!! Awesome news!! Astounding considering the bitter cold up there.
All was quiet at the nest the brief time I was able to check in today. It must have hatched afterwards. Maybe I’ll get to see the little ones tomorrow.
It has been raining steadily all day. supposed to turn to all snow later. That poor eagle sitting on the nest looks like crap.
The spouse just showed up (dry) and they are now both protecting the nest and the little guys. Really cute.
AAAAAAAW!!! How precious!
I watched for a little while this afternoon but the parent stayed put the whole time. Poor thing was soaking wet. It wiggled several times and I figured the kiddos must have been restless underneath.
Glad the rain stopped long enough for the babies to get a bite to eat without getting soaked themselves.
The rest of the story...
Watched for a couple of hours. The female showed up. Sat with the male for a while until the rain/snow ended. She kicked him out to go hunt while she stayed behind. He came back with the chow and you know the rest... ;-)
the top story link to the nest is black on my screen yet the timer is runnin ?
