Vanity Post, need Freeper help regarding tire problems

HELP Freepers, I need some help regarding a tire. A little over 2 weeks ago we put brand new BF Goodrich tires on my Ford Expedition. This morning as I am driving my daughter to school I hear a "POP", about 10 seconds later my Low Tire Pressure light comes on. I pulled over to look and my back passenger side tire is going flat. Long story short, the dealership where we got the tires is trying to say I ran over something in the road that punctured the tire. My husband drove the exact same route less than 30 minutes before I did and had no problems. There was nothing in the road, and my question is, if I ran over something sharp enough to puncture a tire, wouldn't it have gotten the front tire first?? Am I wrong in thinking the dealership is trying to get out of making this right???

Never seen a new tire pop on its own.

Should be simple for them to show you the hole if you ran over something.

In my experience if you run over something you don’t hear anything, the tire just starts going flat. Unless its something major.

If its a tire defect then you hear a pop.

Its a car dealership, of course they are trying to get out of it.

It's not unusual or weird to have a puncture on the rear, but not on the front. Most of the times I've flatted a tire because of something in the road (nail, or screw type item) it was a back tire. The front tire might run over the object in a non-damaging way, and the object is reoriented so the rear tire gets it.

The object should still be in the tire.

Make them show you and make sure you are watching them while they take off the tire and check it.

If you bought road hazard coverage with you tires, it doesn’t matter how it happened, they will fix the tire for free.

Google search and see if other people have had problems with this tire. Usually there are many others.........................if it’s a tire problem.................

It’s possible the front tire kicked up the object that got the rear tire.

Chances are you’ll need to get in contact with a mfg rep. Did you buy road hazard
warranty? If so that should cover it. Otherwise you are facing a defect situation
assuming you are correct in that you didn’t run over anything.

Yes, you are wrong. A front tire or an entire vehicle may pass over sharp, pointy objects and road debris without incident, only to have a rear tire or the tire of a following vehicle get punctured. The tire should show an identifiable puncture instead of a manufacturing defect.

My last two flats were on the right rear. You drive over something and the front tire lifts it up. The back tire catches it and ka-pow. The road is changing all the time. Your husband may have missed the object by half an inch.

It comes down to this. Did you buy road hazard insurance? (Even if you did it might not help. I have 20,000 miles on Michelins and it still cost me $47 to replace a tire because it was worn 3/1000.)

If they’re going to charge you full price then I’d say go to either “Discount Tire” Or Costco. Tires are very competitive. They’ll be within a few dollars. So far I think Discount has the best warranty.

If you go somewhere else to get tires, DO NOT go to Firestone.

About ten years ago I had the thread come apart on a fairly new tire (under a year old).
Was a vibration for about 5 seconds and then the *POP/BANG* before I could pull over.
Tire folks (Goodyear) made it right.

My husband asked for it and they said they didn’t have it, it must still be on the road so he went and walked both sides of it for over 100 feet and found nothing. If I’m wrong I don’t mind paying for it, but this place has a reputation for ripping people off.

I must be lucky, the place I buy my tires from will fix a flat for free, no matter how old the tire is. Maybe they include it in the price of the new tire, but I never paid for any extra warranty, etc. Good luck with your situation !
