Word For The Day, Tuesday April 1, 2014
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
trope [trop]
-n
1. a. a word or expression used in a figurative sense, figure of speech
b. a common or overused theme or device, cliche
2. a phrase or verse added as an embellishment or interpolation to the sung parts of the Mass in the Middle Ages
[Latin tropus, from Greek tropos turn, way, manner, style, trope, from trepein to turn]
jamás [hah-MAHS]
-adv
never
Antes, ellos jamás habían estado tarde.
They had never been late before.
Haha - he did finally marry their mother when the kids were six or seven years old....
Same idea. Plays you study in 10th grade English class. ;-)
Ok, when you do, pay attention when tracy tells Ted they need to either get married quickly or put it off ..... SD and I need to know!
Definitely a novella by any other name...
So my son asked - were those the same kids all these years on that sofa?
Pretty much everything on tv is a novella... ;^)
Yes. They shot all those scenes in the first two seasons. If you think about it, you haven’t really seen them a lot lately.
The son played the eldest son on The Wizards of Waverly Place.
Streetcar named Desire.
Yes, it is-NatGeo and History channel(s) are still a welcome change. I do watch “Vikings”, though...
Ive never seen that show
I thi k my guys are watching that too
Oh, you’re good-I had to ask the mechanic shop guy...
Vikings is pretty cool. Little rough sometimes, but I guess it’s kinda hard to tell a decent viking story without blood.
I like it-the British pay much better attention to historical documents-if it were USA made, it would probably have Ragnar sailing to Northumbria to slay some dragon.
So true- my son has been pointing out errors like that on tv and movies for years
From all I’ve read, if they follow the real historical record of the main characters, it is about to get a bit worse-apparently, revenge was a serious matter, and blood feuds lasted for generations back then...
Your son is obviously a gentleman and a scholar-you are a good mom...
It was Disney channel, so I wouldn’t expect you would have.
And it's not like they had a lot to say. It doesn't take much to act like a bored teen ager.
“Help, I’m slipping into the twilight zone, the place is a madhouse, feels like being cloned”...
The guy who owns this place and the shop up front is finishing up with his customers, getting ready to go to his other place out of state for a couple of weeks. Fooling with the electrical in the shop, he knocked it out in here-fans, computer, everything which made me mutter profanities quietly to myself as I reset everything...
He says he and the wife split for good-he introduced me to a much younger rode hard and put up wet blonde in a halter and daisy dukes-who shook my hand, smiled and said hi, I’m a hooker and XXXX hired me in SA to go to Georgia with him isn’t that great, giggle, giggle. I said how nice, have a great time and all that, thinking I’ve been around, sweetie, I don’t shock. I wonder how much she is making for a 2-week vaca trip? Julia Roberts she ain’t...
Don’t know why I’m in such straits that I’ve got to live by a lunatic asylum to get everything together the way I want, but there must be a reason...
