In the pilot episode, we see Ted courting Robin. One is led to believe that this is the titular “mother” until the very end of the pilot, where he calls her (the kids’) “Aunt Robin.”

I read that had it lasted only the intial season then Robin would have been the mother.

Also had they ended it on the Stella season, she would have been. Of course that could all have been smoke and mirrors to protect the ending (that a lot of people had guessed about the mother's fate)

Nah, there is no way Robin could be the mother after the pilot.

Stella or Victoria, maybe.

I hope the kids knew they were bastards before Dad’s story about missing out on the castle wedding.
