Tiger Woods Has Back Surgery
ESPNDOTCOM ^ | 1Apr 2014 | Bob Harig

Tiger Woods will miss the Masters after undergoing back surgery earlier this week for a pinched nerve that has been hurting him for several months, the world's No. 1 player said Tuesday on his website.

It will be the first time in 20 years that Woods will not play in the event.

The microdiscectomy was performed Monday by neurosurgeon Dr. Charles Rich in Park City, Utah. The statement said Woods will begin "intensive rehabilitation and soft-tissue treatment" within a week, and the goal is for him to return to competition "sometime this summer."

Not nearly the invasive coverage, nor the money and perks. Lots of travel without the kids and the wife.

Even today that sort of thing is pretty common, but out of privacy it isn’t reported.

Tiger pissed off the press, and the press pissed all over the golden goose.

PGA revenue is off, Ad revenue is down, etc.

People don’t learn.

Is this a result of the extreme conditioning he participated in during his younger years?

When he was a teenager and playing in a local amateur tournament (I think the Dixie Amateur), one of the local stations got a video of him hitting a drive, clutching his back and collapsing to the ground. I didn't think he would have much of a career.

you mean with the HgH and testosterone? Probably. Funny thing about those PEDs, ya always end up paying the piper. Nothing is free.

This raises an interesting situation. Tiger is currently 44th on the Ryder Cup points list. He might be back in time for the British Open, and probably back for the PGA Championship. Unless he wins one of those, he probably won’t make the team. So the question is, if you’re captain Tom Watson, do you use a captain’s pick on Tiger?

I would guess that the golf talking heads will still worship at the Alter of Elderick. I expect some to be near tears.

I just don't get personally invested in these guys, I mean it's not like their family. The golfer I had always enjoyed was Lee Trevino, great player and a lot of fun!

Or when they leave talking about the winner to discuss how bad Tiger was in the last round.

How is he the “world’s #1 golfer”? He hasn’t won a major in years and won’t win one this year either.

“you mean with the HgH and testosterone? Probably. “

You are making slander. Woods was not taking HGH or testosterone when he was hitting 150 yard drives as a 3 year old. He probably weighed about 130 lbs. when he was driving 300 yards as a 16 year old. Frankly when woods was young, it looked like a wet tee shirt on a hanger weighed more than he did.

Furthermore, he has voluntarily submitted blood samples to be frozen so they could be tested at any time in the future with more sophisticated testing for any PED’s.

He is a kid who obsessed with golf and with that kind of devotion he is a long way to achieving most of his goals.

“That’s Racist”

No it is stupidity. Woods is number one because the computers and the ranking formula says Woods is number one.

Did you see the 150 yard drive by a three year old or just repeating the myth? Don’t be naive. I’m not a Tiger hater but I’m not going to deify a pro golfing hound dog.

The PGA didn’t start testing till 2008. If you remember Woods had his knee “worked on” by a Canadian sports medicine shyster that was infamous for treating NFL players and whose assistant was busted transporting HgH and other PEDs across the border.

Lance Armstrong passed over 600 tests. The stuff being used now clears the system in hours I have a background in medicine and sports via boxing. The fact that an important athlete like Tiger would have Anthony Galea treat him lets me know all I need to know. If you don’t believe me then look him up yourself. It’s a joke that tiger could be such an outlier physically with the time travel and grind of the tour.

He also had the mood swings, male pattern baldness, breakdown of ligaments due to overuse and jaw is looking a little bigger. Look at Lebron if you want to see similar physical secondary characteristics. Tell me if you think Serena is just genetically freakish to have a 30 year old body in a female that has lean muscle mass looking like an NFL fullback.

PEDs are part of the pro life that gives some athletes the edge they need to win. When you’re talking about millions of dollars most of these pros would sell their moms.

The hate extends to the ‘Tiger’ slam too. He was, at the same period of time, defending champ of all four majors. Not sure if Hogan pulled that off, but that’s pretty impressive.

In 1953, Hogan won The Master's, the US Open, and the British. Due to the scheduling at the time and transAtlantic travel still being by ship, playing in the British meant missing the PGA (which was match play at the time).

The concept of golf's 'Grand Slam' didn't really exist until the mid-60s. In fact, very few American players even bothered with the British Open until Arnold Palmer almost personally re-popularized it starting in 1962.
