Doris Day on Turning 90: 'I've Had an Amazing Life!'
ABC ^ | April 3, 2014 | LESLEY MESSER

Believe it or not, Doris Day is now 90 years old.

Looking back on nine decades, all she can do is appreciate all she has.

"All I ever wanted in my life was to get married, have kids, keep house and cook, and even though I did all these things, I still ended up in Hollywood," she told Closer magazine. "It was a great trip. I've had an amazing life and wonderful times. And I'm happy!"

Day, who lives a quiet life in California, told the magazine that aside from "little aches and pains," she has been "blessed with good health" and is still very active.

"I love to be outside, walking along the beach or working in my garden," she explained. "Those things are all quite enjoyable for me. I have everything I could ever want right here in Carmel!"

Wonder if she knew Rock Hudson was gay when she did all those love scenes with him?

She was the number one female movie star for a year or two. She is under appreciated by Hollywood. A great singer and actress. A true movie star.

Day is one of the great underappreciated actresses of all time. She lit up the screen whenever she appeared. She had the true charisma of a star.

This movie (I’ll See You in My Dreams) wasn’t one of her most famous but was packed full of wonderful old songs - I highly recommend it if old fashioned, soulful singing from Doris is something you enjoy.

Forget about the Rock Hudson movies -—in ‘54 she did a great movie opposite Sinatra called Young at Heart. You wouldn’t expect those two to generate much chemistry, but, boy, did they ever. With Gig Young, Ethel Barrymore.... just a. great movie.

I do believe she knew he was gay they were very close friends. I love Doris Day and Pillow Talk is one of my favorite movies. The scenes she did with Rock were hardly love scenes back then they didn’t even really kiss.

Love Doris Day, but she’s fudged her age for her entire adult life. According to census records and her official biographer, Doris was born in 1922, making her 92.

She knew. In fact, didn’t she speak at Hudson’s induction to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown for being hit in the face by more b@ll$ than Yogi Berra?

I remember in the 60’s, a NY Times review of one of her films began as follows” “Who cares if a 50ish woman finally loses her virginity?”

My favorite recollection of Doris Day is that hit song she sung in 1954, “Secret Love.” At the time I was 14 and madly in love with a girl who didn’t know it—and I was very too much too shy to express my feelings. But that song spoke to my heart.

“e Doris Day, but she’s fudged her age for her entire adult life. According to census records and her official biographer, Doris was born in 1922, making her 92.”

You might be right but I am thinking two reasons why she listed 1922 as her birth year instead of 1924.

1. She started singing professionally in 1940, adding two year would get around child labor laws.

2. Her son Terry was born in 1942, making him conceived at 17 years old. Even in 1941 that would have not looked good.
