Our “poor” are the richest “poor” in the entire world. They have cars, tvs, cable service, air conditioners, heat, they have aid to pay for heat and electricity and gas, and they get money for the kids they have, and they get money for food, free obamaphones we already pay for.

We are already being forced/compelled to give to these people without our consent, by the government, who takes all the credit for it.

In turn the government makes those who do well or don’t need help as being selfish and greedy and holding these people down. While taking our money to give to them, playing the good guy.

Why on earth would we be tired of hearing how selfish and cold-hearted we all are?

I never mock those who are just plain stupid, they cannot help it anymore than if they were born blind. What drives me up the wall is those who have triple digit IQ and yet are WILLFULLY IGNORANT,BLIND TO REALITY AND STUPID ACTING, a description which fits most of the liberals I know.

I agree with you! FR now has so many people who seem to hate their fellow Americans if they fall on hard times. I don’t remember this from years ago. Passing strange...

Ghost of Christmas Present: If these shadows remain unaltered by the future, none other of my species will find him here. But if he is to die, then let him die...! “AND DECREASE THE SURPLUS POPULATION!”

Ebenezer Scrooge: You use my own words against me?

Ghost of Christmas Present: Yes! So perhaps, in the future, you will hold your tongue until you have discovered where the surplus population is, and WHO it is. It may well be that, in the sight of Heaven, you are more worthless and less fit to live than MILLIONS like this poor man’s child.

The thing about giving is it isn’t realy about the recipient it’s about the good it does your own soul.

St. John Vianney about alms giving:

"There are some who say: 'Oh, how badly he uses it!' May he do whatever he wants with it! The poor will be judged on the use they have made of their alms, and you will be judged on the very alms that you could have given but haven't."

Umm! One of the greatest novellas in the English language.

I don’t believe in Karma but sometimes when I give a buck to a stranger I do think that maybe someday someone will help me if I get in similar circumstances. Not the noblest idea but I do worry about the future.

You have many who agree with you, you know. They may not be with you on this thread right now but they are all over America.

Oftentimes when I pay for a purchase I’ll tell the cashier to credit my change to the person behind me. Not always but more often than not.

I suppose my husband (and I) would qualify as your "'Dead Beats' crowd here on FR" but I'd like to share our story here with you and others, who might share your opinion (or could I say hypocritical opinions of others who don't share your beliefs.)

On one of the coldest evenings here in the Heartland in 2013/14, my husband was picking up a few items at a local grocery store. While there, he was approached by a well spoken and dressed black gentleman, who politely asked if my husband, "had a moment."

Being the polite and gentle soul that he is, my husband responded, "sure I do." The other fellow went on to say that he'd gotten a job but had to wait to get his first paycheck and that his wife had asked him to go to the store for her to buy something they could have for dinner but that he realized he, "couldn't afford to purchase enough for their dinner," could my husband give him some money. My husband said while he couldn't "give" money to the man but he would pay for some groceries if the man couldn't afford to purchase enough for their dinner.

I'll cut the story down for brevity but when picking out a "few items," the man refused store or generic brand pasta, etc. stating that "his wife only liked XX brand."

My husband thought this was a bit cheeky of someone who was looking to have food purchased by another but went on to go through the store buying enough food to get the couple enough to eat for a couple of days (they could have stretched it out longer buying cheaper brands but the man stated "his wife didn't like this or that brand.")

Upon returning home and sharing the story with me, stating that he'd bought about $125.00 worth of food for a man who didn't have any money for he and his wife, I complimented my husband's giving nature stating I probably would have insisted purchasing less expensive groceries, like the ones I buy for us but he was trying to be a loving example of caring for his brother who has less.

Now for "the rest of the story," as Paul Harvey used to say: while going to the Post Office (one that is about three blocks away from the grocery store) a month later, he was again approached by the same man, again asking for money "to buy some grocery items to get he and his wife by for a couple of days 'til he got paid."

My husband told the man no, he's already bought them over $100.00 worth of groceries to "get them through the weekend, 'til he got paid," and that was all he felt he should do, that the man should just have to find another person this time around.

It's not that we don't "care for our brother," but we give plenty to various agencies to care for the genuine poor as well as our local food pantries are begging for more and more so that, "there aren't hundreds going to bed each night hungry."

I have no doubts that plenty are having a very difficult time feeding themselves and their families but to say that there aren't enough caring souls willing to help others, this old saw is getting quite old especially when one watches the food pantries' parking lots with brand new SUVs pulling up and mostly Mexican or at least non-English speaking folks, dressed well and looking as they could well afford a jar or two of peanut butter and a loaf of bread coming by every day for food but when you are advertising "free food," thousands have no problem taking it when they can well afford to buy their own - and, like I said in my story, plenty of folk are just cheating and pretending to be in need, when they are not!

Wow! What’s with all of the complex machinations to do a charitable act? Be charitable and be on your way or not. If you cannot afford to give a bum a buck without contemplating whether you’re being scammed/ripped off/cheated then save your dollar and give it to the IRS. This is where “What difference does it make?” really counts. So the guy/gal gives you some BS story. Big deal.

Are we charitable Christian conservatives or social engineers using your money to coerce others to do your bidding? So he buys drugz/booze with your dollar? Not your responsibility. You’re serving the virtue of charity. You’ve done your part.

"We don't have poverty in this country"

We don't have poverty in this country yet .

If they keep voting democrat-socialist-marxist (same thing), the "poor" in this country will discover the true meaning of poverty.

It needs to be explained to everyone that if they vote for this anti-capitalistic "income equality" crap- then we will all end up living at the same level of poverty of whatever Third World hell-hole the poor came here to escape from.

And the corrupt politicians that they voted for , who destroyed this country, will be the only ones enjoying any kind of luxury.

I only mock stuipid people who are “poor” due to their own damned stuipidiity, especially when they have items that are more expensive than my own and they spend their meager money frivolously and cannot manage their own money because their priorites are all screwed up.

A couple of months ago I had to get a nuclear stress test in Las Vegas. While I was inside, wife waited for me and reported: A couple of 30-something blacks came in for a test and started complaining they had no money when the clerk said there was a $5.00 fee for Medicare patients. Wife said they sported gold chains that looked like they came from the Atocha shipwreck and each had a pack of $5.00 ciggies in their breast pocket.

I'd have loved to have heard the clerk say they would take one link of their gold chains, or even a partial pack of ciggies as payment, but then that happens only in my fantasies.

Ditto. Experienced the same thing with my wife (also from Mexico).

It’s easy and all to common for us to feel sorry for ourselves when we live in world where we have everything we need but not everything we want.
