Hippo vs. Crocodile: Stunning Photos Show Beastly Showdown in the Wild
New York Daily News ^ | 4/16

An army of crocodiles took on a herd of massive hippos -- although if you ask us, this fight doesn't seem quite fair. Check out the wild photos from the beastly battle...

It's nature at it's most stunning -- and also it's most brutal. A herd of hippos was no match for this throng of hungry crocodiles that descended upon the unsuspecting beasts at the South Luangwa National Park in Eastern Zambia. See how the drama unfolded...

Hippos, like elephants, appear to mourn when one of them dies. They’ll often linger for days around the carcass, loathe to leave. Crocs are the garbagemen of the river system..

Crocs only kill baby hippos if the mother isn't around. The hippo isn't natural prey of crocs. This writer doesn't know what he's talking about. They say a hippo will bite a croc in half, something I've never seen.

Agreed. You may have also seen the series where mother hippo pushes her calf up on top of feeding crocs, and the crocs do not touch the calf. I have learned repeatedly that crocs give way to hippos all the time.
