The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.'

Happy Easter all!

A lovely lineup tonight...Jack Benny's “Walking in the Easter Parade”, a classic...we get a Phil Harris/Alice Faye show...and a Six Shooter! Love the Six Shooter and love Jimmy Stewart.

Hope you can make it for the show...I'll be a little late coming back from a family dinner...

There was an “Easter Parade” episode on Jack’s tv-show in 1960, and I’m assuming it was something of a reworking of the radio episode. The tv version was one of the “aired live” ones, but a kinescope of it was included in the dvd-collection that Shout Factory released a year or two ago. One of the funnier episodes on the set.

Speaking of Benny, I need to finally go ahead and order the dvd release of “The Horn Blows at Midnight” (1945) that the Warner Archives recently released. I still have an off-air recording of the movie, which I taped back in 1984 or 1985, off of WTBS. I just gotta upgrade these things!

Did you hear that?! He (”Chester”) just said, “He bought it from Bundy outside of Las Vegas.” Wow.

Vision, we’re fine. It’s a perfectly beautiful Easter day here. Smoking a butt, straight smoking. Went to see Keith’s Mom earlier.

Was your family dinner a good one?

AND, Johnny just made a reference to a dessert turtle! Did Ed choose this JD matter on purpose, I wonder?

I meant a DESERT turtle, not a dessert turtle. Duh.

I did hear that. Coincidence or maybe the Bundy’s have been a big name out there forever?

Pork butt is a good thing, you gotta try those burnt ends...

Dinner was good. Casual french. Nothing major to report.

Yeah, we hope all is well with him, too. He really sounds “off.”

Today was a busy day, and it just wasn’t convenient to try something special with the pork butt. We had to go over to Mobile, an hour away, to see his Mom, and it put us at a late start on the grill. Maybe next time when time’s not so tight.

Casual French! I can’t even imagine what kind of food that was, being from West Texas and all. :-)

It was a casual French bistro. Like french onion soup, chocolate mousse.

Ed's slurring his speech.

Did they say anything about Chester or just leave that plot line open?
