Pinot and M&M Pairings at Claypool Cellars

It might be the smallest tasting room in Sonoma County -- possibly anywhere -- but Claypool Cellars manages to pack a lot of personality into the converted railroad caboose inside Sebastopol's Gravenstein Station. There's the obvious draw of winery namesake Les Claypool, the frontman and bass guitarist of the alt-rock band Primus and the recently formed Duo de Twang, a rockabilly-bluegrass combo.

Rather than making the tasting room (which Claypool nicknamed the Fancy Booze Caboose) a shrine to Claypool's rock 'n' roll life, he and wife Chaney wholeheartedly embraced the train theme by displaying choice pieces of her late father's antique train collection.

I see Dave Mustaine is making wine these days too.

Les Claypool auditioned with Metallica many years ago but they told him that he needed to go do his own thing.
