Look My late father in law was the meanest most sadistic cop in that county years ago. He got his jollies beating people including a well know escapee in the early 1960's. Any retired county or state cops about 70 or older could vouch for what I'm saying. He ran the Knox County Penal Farm back in the late 50's early 60's. Yep he also once worked for UT, KCSD, and THP.
That said I have a relative who is a retired UTPD Captain long before things got out of hand. I also knew the former UTPD Chief. He's been retired over a decade is my guess.
I've met good cops and bad ones. I've had an uncle often enough be on the receiving end of a night stick.
That said some of the parties at UT as of late have gotten out of hand and if your a local you know what I'm talking about. It sounds like the parties got moved off campus.
Almost all the cops I know are good cops but there are a couple of bad apples I know. The fact that most cops are still good is why I hate to see these bad apples—the garden sometimes needs to be weeded.

Yeap that's true. And sometimes events involving UT parties get blown out of proportion meaning beginning when they get busted. Last year maybe two years ago IIRC one Frat had a party and some students were doing alcohol enemas. I'm not making it up. One kid almost died. Another Frat I think also lost their charter after that due to out of control parties. Thus the reason this one was likely off campus in Ft Sanders.
The cops didn't just happen by they were called because of disturbances in the street and it is a residential area including families where UT students also rent.
I'd like to see an Internal Affairs Report and I'm guessing TBI will likely be the agency involved in that before calling for a rope.
The Sheriff’s Office has fired the officer.
Photographer appears to be distorting the facts. Wait until you find out what REALLY happened before jumping to conclusions. Some of the final analysis will be seen by observing the officer’s hand formation in the final photographs.

That was quick: Fired, and referred to DA for further action. If there were justice, that further action would be taken.
It’s sad, though, that between two other officers six feet away, and a journalist who posted photos thousands of miles away, that the latter is better at detecting possible criminal misdoing on the part of a another officer. It shows both the power of the new media (or, at least relative to the old media - where was the TN press?) and also the power of the Blue Wall of Silence.

Thank you son of Obama. Now that the mutual insults are over I'll post a reply. I don't know the cop. I know no active cops. I do not even live in Knox County. Again the only picture I can download is that in the KNS website and no it does not look like a choking position especially the cops right hand reaching around from the side. Not one Freeper has mentioned the resisting arrest part where the guy allegedly reached for an officers leg either. Not that officer but the arresting one.
The guys facial expression, the other two cops facial expressions, the mug shot, all leave me doubting BASED ON SEEING THE PICTURE has me doubting that in that picture he was choking the man.
Put your own hands around your own neck from the front and see where they end up on your neck. Do it at any angle you wish. One poster in Knoxnews.com not me btw because I don't buy that left leaning paper posted that in that one picture it looked more like the cop was removing a necklace as part of arrest procedure. Bad move trying to accomplish such from the front side. The arresting officer not him BTW is the one cuffing him.
Now giving the political hate some Knoxville media has for almost any GOP officer and long standing animosity not with that sheriff but the previous Republican sheriff as well I can see someone up for election wanting this incident resolved ASAP.
I doubt we have heard the last of this story.
The young student will probably hire a lawyer and settle with the county.
He is envious that the college kids are getting what he never got.
