Five meters of ice about 16 feet thick - is threatening the survival of polar bears in the Southern Beaufort Sea region along Alaskas Arctic coast, according to Dr. Susan J. Crockford, an evolutionary biologist in British Columbia who has studied polar bears for most of her 35-year career. Thats because the thick ice ridges could prevent ringed seals, the bears major prey, from creating breathing holes they need to survive in the frigid waters, Crockford told CNSNews.com.
Prompted by reports of the heaviest sea ice conditions on the East Coast in decades and news that ice on the Great Lakes is, for mid-April, the worst its been since records began, I took a close look at the ice thickness charts for the Arctic, Crockford noted in her Polar Bear Science blog on April 18th.
There were comparably high levels of spring ice in the Beaufort Sea in 2004 and 2006, when bear counts were one of the pieces of evidence used to have the bears listed as threatened in the U.S., Crockford pointed out.
Polar bear biologists were finding some bears quite thin and found a population decline, she said, which they attributed to melting summer ice caused by global warming.
But the biologists were not there to see the thick [spring] ice. All they saw was thin bears, she pointed out. They blamed the poor condition of the bears on summer ice, instead of acknowledging that it was likely the condition of the ice in the spring that was the cause of the problem.

We have to act now before it is too late.
I’m taking the muffler off of my SUV as we speak.......
cuz, like, when it gets warmer somewhere, it has to get colder somewhere else?
Too much Ice, not enough ice, just the right amount of ice. “The Three Little Polar Bears”?
When ‘they’ can tell me what is the optimum temperature is, the optimum amount of CO2 is, the optimum amount of ice is, the optimum amount of sea water (level)is, and all that, THEN I’ll think about considering something to do about it.
Until then, or when they can tell me with exact accuracy if it will rain on my house on a specified date sometime in the next month, they can STFU.
I’m gonna go pee in a lake. :o)
If some gov’t bureaucrat sees you, they’ll have to drain the whole thing.
I am going to open the windows and turn up the heat. We need to burn more oil.
We have to ACT NOW. Before it is too late.
We really don’t have time right now to save the polar bears. We’ve got to pass amnesty and “immigration reform” or we’re all doomed!!! DOOMED!
Eat more Chili!
And have some cabbage/broccoli soup while yer at it!
"No, this time it was some Canadian named Crock."
Ask the locals ,Polar Bear hunting season opened up and was done in a couple of weeks ,it usually takes months to get their limit
I love how the climate change cultists are struggling to explain these far colder than normal conditions are the result of man caused global warming. My favorite is that hotter than normal condition exist in the southern hemisphere as a result of man caused global warming and that has somehow has pushed the cold air further south.
