We sold Smithfield to China. I wonder if their farms are as affected as everyone else's?
Just bought 3 feeder pigs this weekend at $1.75/lb to offset the coming increases
I agree. I think we should ban food from China outright.
And raise the import tariffs on everything else. We tariff China less than we tax American producers. That’s insane.
If we could isolate this virus and introduce it into the wild pig population we might be able to make a dent in their rapidly increasing numbers.
Remember when Hoof and mouth disease was rampant in Europe a few years ago?
Some American Animal Rights people went there and tromped through the infected barns, then tried to re-enter the US with the diseased manure on their shoes.
It was believed they wanted to introduce the disease to the US to destroy the meat industry here.
I missed that “event”.
In theory this may be OK. In practice, I am not confident that the procedure they describe is actually followed precisely.
The carcasses should be disposed of and not used for anything.
pretty much yea.
Ask your nearest Muslim that question.
From China? The same place CONgress just authorized to process chicken sold to us?
Our county has an Emergency Response Program in place for just that sort of scenario. My vet was involved during the Hoof & Mouth scare.
Even possible fomites, such as cleaned wool, were to be quarantined. No deliveries direct to the property. Deliveries left on the other side of the road, disinfection protocols in place, all extremely thorough.
It never reached that point, but there were restrictions of visitors in place quite early.
Could the filthy mozz-lums be behind this?
Once I had mozz-lums living next door. One day I found a toy pig from a child’s animal play set tossed over my fence.
Can you imagine? mozz-lums are so sick they would take out a toy pig from a kid’s play set?
auto clav doesn’t not destroy prions -
Will we ever learn?
1. Slaughtered
2. Frozen
3. Shipped USA to China by boat
4. Thawed
5. Cooked
6. Frozen (again)
7. Shipped back over the Pacific from China to USA
8. Trucked to a supermarket near you
A long process. That is a cold, well traveled bird.
I cant imagine...that peta goofballs would be taking advantage of this just to promote greenie-ism....
More likely sick animals were imported. Just Occam’s Razor applied.
Don't try to kill off what we may soon need.
They were reporting this on RFD a long time ago and I got about 20 packages before the price went up.
