Skip to comments.WATCH: The last 20 Kentucky Derby champs race in fantasy simulation

Who would win if the field was comprised of greats like Barbaro, Big Brown and Orb?
Since the window for horses to race in the Kentucky Derby only spans about a year, it's next to impossible to watch the greats go head to head. So how do you know which horse would win the Run for the Roses if the field was loaded with past champs like Barbaro, Smarty Jones and Fusaichi Pegasus?
Luckily we have the clever simulation above from HorseRaceGame.com, which uses a unique algorithm that factors in pace, running style, speed/stamina consumption and jockey intelligence to deliver amazingly accurate outcomes. This particular video pits each of the past 20 Derby winners against each other in a fantasy race for the ages.

I was in the infield to see Secretariat. It was a great experience—much of which I do not discuss even today. :)
ok now you GOT TO tell us....
Can get very wild in the infield. Suspect you did not see much that day?
What about track condition?
Thanks nbSee... Nothing like a little race to take minds off WH memos of youtube vids, zeroCare, ukraine...
would this be useful for predicting tomorrows results?
Horce racing is one of those ‘odd’ events where some of the past horse champions produced better times that haven’t been touched even with the advancements in nutrition, breeding, and training.
Big Brown should have won the Triple Crown.
I would love to see Affirmed in this field.
Secretariat won the Derby in its all time record and IMO would have destroyed most of this field and all things being equal by about three lengths for the closest not counting racing luck.
Due to a misspent youth, I have been fortunate to have seen most of the best horses race in the past 55 or so years, bet on a lot of them, and saw some that had the ability to be the best which did not make it due to misfortune. The one that comes to mind for me is Hoist the Flag. I truly believe he would have been the equal of secretariat except for the fractured leg.
I don’t know. The simulation showed little speed in this field with fractions of 24 and 48 for the quarter and half mile...too linear.
Standing on top of a dumpster on the back stretch—I had a great view just about all the way around. That’s all I can tell you in a public forum. :)
It's all great fun but luckily mrs p6 doesn't know about the infield. If she knew what I have seen...!!!!!!
Well, the funniest thing I saw that time was a college fraternity that staked out their territory early in the morning. They put a little twine fence around themselves and their coolers. By the end of the day, not one of them was standing. One poor guy had passed out backwards into his styrofoam cooler, which exploded, leaving him laying in a pile of ice. He was only wearing shorts, no shirt, so he was suburned bright red head to toe. Burnt on one side, frozen on the other, unconscious—with his mouth wide open.
Besides the bacchanalian marathon, various romantic activities bloomed everywhere. What a great horse race.
Secretariat is God/Clapton in horse heaven
Not even a hair of debate....what a horse
Man o War second
Both boys were chestnuts btw....like my own TB Major
Best split tail race horse.....Ruffian.....pretty fast for a girl
Sorry, love the horses, but that was lame.
He would have if not for three things, in no particular order of importance - the loose shoe, the quarter crack, and Desormeaux’s uncharacteristically bad ride. The horse was more than good enough. He barely broke a sweat in cruising to victory in the first two races.
I’ll Have Another, on the other hand, would have easily, in my opinion, won the Triple Crown had he raced. He’s an underrated horse as it was, but that Belmont was among the slowest in history and the track conditions were fine.
It would be tough, since Man O' War didn't run in the Derby. Sam Riddle thought the first weekend in May was too early to ask a three-year-old to go a mile and a quarter. Hard to argue with him about that.
