It's often easy to spot when cats are being finicky or feisty. But what about when they are showing pure feline affection? What does that look like?

We spoke with Dr. Allen Schoen, a veterinarian, behaviorist and author of the best-selling book Kindred Spirits and Vetstreet's own Dr. Marty Becker, author of Your Cat: The Owner's Manual, to share 10 ways cats deliver love and affection to the people who matter most to them.

"I've been studying animal behavior since 1974 and can say without a doubt that cats can and do bond with their favorite people," declares Dr. Allen Schoen, a veterinarian, behaviorist and author of the best-selling book Kindred Spirits. "I've been fortunate to share my life with some of the sweetest, most loving cats. When they come in contact with us, they are consciously making an inter-species connection."

But the trick is to recognize - and appreciate - what they are trying to tell you. Here are ten ways cats show their affection.

#8 is reassuring - I’ve often wondered if she was just tasting, in case we missed feeding her sometime!

Mine follows me around in every room, sits on my desk, and sleeps with me so I think she likes me...except when she poops on the floor. I think she revenge poops from time to time...: )

I used to have a cat that came up to me when I was laying down in bed and wanted her neck rubbed. One day after petting her for some time she slapped me across the face to show how much she loved me....lol!!!!

I only had one cat in my life but it was the coolest cat in the world. Just a tabby from the street. Looked just like Morris on the commercial. He would jump on my shoulder and I would walk around the neighborhood with him on my shoulder like a parrot. He licked my hair all the time.
As I knew nothing about cats, when I took him to the vet I just plopped him in my lap as I drove to the vet. He hung his head out the window.
One day he just disappeared like he came into my life. Still miss him.

You know that your cat really loves you when she buys you a new Porsche 911. Purring, like talk, is cheap.

years ago we had a cat that would bring my Mom mice he caught in exchange for some raw hamburger meat ..

He would drop the still live but exhausted and petrified mouse by the fridge and do his favorite leaning against with his front paws till someone opened the fridge door..accompanying by plaintive “starving” Meows while keeping the mouse corralled at his feet..

However after he had finished the hamburger he would retrieve his mouse and go outside with it..

:)

every cat I have ever owned did all 10 of these things.

I am convinced that those who don’t like cats have never had a cat do them.
